On Labour Day I was out delivering parts to the various Auto Zone stores 
that my Hub store services and noticed that quite a few trees along the 
route had started to turn colour - - - about three weeks early. We must 
be in for a really zippy cold winter. I'll have to consult my wooly bear 
capper-tiller migrations in a couple of weeks.

Other signs of encroaching seasonal changes ... the moderate steroid 
using athletes of MLB are winding down their season whilst the severe 
steroid users are cranking up theirs. NFL held their first "real" games 
this week - jumping the gun over the October start that was usual when I 
was a young man. In a side note supporting my idea this is an unusual 
year - here we are in the second week of September and the Denizens of 
Wrigley Field haven't moved to Manila yet. Heck, they are leading their 
division. What's up with that???

The brightly painted taxicabs of NASCAR are holding their last regular 
season race of the year before their 10 race version of a playoff, 
called the "Chase for the Championship".

And on top of all that - the farmers have been picking corn an average 
of two weeks earlier than is their usual practice

I think probably Mr. Gore's "alarmist fears" are coming to pass. Brother 
Weller may be basking in a sub-tropical paradise (well, maybe not for 
the polar bears) in just a few short years.

And what is that going to do to my supply of broccoli, cauliflower, 
tomatoes and the other white vegetable - pork????

      Title: Coconut Shrimp With Star Fruit And Black Bean Salsa
 Categories: Emeril, Seafood, Fruit
      Yield: 4 servings
 
      2 lb Large shrimp (about 24)
           - peeled; tails on, and
           - deveined
      1    Egg yolk; slightly beaten
      1 cn Red Stripe Beer
      2 c  Flour
      1 ts Salt
      2 c  Fresh coconut
      2    Egg whites; beaten to medium
           Peaks
      1    Star fruit; sliced into
           - 1/2-inch slices
      1 c  Cooked black beans
    1/2 c  Roasted corn kernels
    2/3 c  Italian tomatoes; peeled,
           - seeded & chopped
    1/2 c  Chopped green onions
    1/2 c  Minced red peppers
      2    Jalapenos, seeded & minced
           Juice of two lemons
      3 tb Chopped cilantro
      1 ts Minced garlic
           Cumin to taste
           Salt & pepper
      1 c  Sour cream
      1    Passion fruit, seeds removed
           - and reserved, minced
 
  Preheat the fryer. In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg and beer together.
  Whisk in the flour, salt and coconut. Whisk until smooth. Fold in the
  egg whites before dipping the shrimp. For the salsa: In a mixing
  bowl, combine the star fruit slices, black beans, roasted corn,
  tomatoes, green onions, red peppers, and jalapenos, together. Mix
  thoroughly. Stir in the juice of one lemon, 2 tablespoons chopped
  cilantro, and garlic. Season with cumin, salt and pepper. For the
  cream: In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, juice of one lemon,
  1 tablespoon chopped cilantro, passion fruit seeds, and minced
  passion fruit. Mix to incorporate. Season with salt and pepper. Fry
  the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the fryer and drain on a
  paper-lined plate. Season with Essence. Dab three small pools of the
  cream around the edge of the plate. Mound the salsa in the center of
  the plate. Place the shrimp around the salsa. Garnish with parsley
  and toasted coconut.
  
  Yields: 4 servings
