Ärende: Hawaiian BBQ
====================
Hey Ruth!
->
-> -> HN> And I'm happy we have them! Can hardly wait for the new place
-> ->  HN> "hawaiian Barbecue" to open!
->
-> -> I think that is an off shoot of L&L if I recall correctly. I
remember
-> -> seeing something in the Advertiser while we were in HI about them
-> -> expanding onto the main land.
->
-> HN> Nope, this one is a family operation, at least it will be when they
-> HN> get it finished and ready to open up...which is taking entirely too
-> HN> long to suit me (grin)!
->
-> Hold on; it'll be open before you know it. Hopefully there will be
-> enough business to sustain it too. And, I'm sure you will give us a
-> write up when you do go there.
->
It is just upstairs (two floors) above my workspace so if they ever do
(seems like they are working on "Hawaiian" time) get it open it will be
convenient for me! There's also a German place up there and it used to be
really (REALLY) good...it was run by two German ladies (wives of retired
Army guys) who really knew what they were doing! Then they got tired of all
the work and sold it to another lady and her daughter...neither of them are
1/4 th the cook that the other ladies were...so it has declined in both
quality and volume of customers. Sad because while it was a tiny place the
food was top notch, and it was a good source of comfort food for Annie who
has German roots.

-> -> Get closer to Seattle and it'll pick up in sales.
->  HN> ->
-> HN> Porugeses sausage sells well...but spam, and spam fried rice don't
-> HN> make Northwesterners jump up and order "more"!
->
-> No but I understand Seattle has a good sized Hawiian population.
->
Actually Tacoma has a good sized Hawaiian population...Most of them are
students at University of Puget Sound (Used to be a Methodist affiliated
College) but we still don't have many "hawaiian" places to eat.

-> -> can be eaten. Generally, with the 2 of us, we'll fix plates in the
-> -> kitchen and bring them over to the table vs putting everything into
-> -> serving bowls, platters, etc. My MIL admits to doing it too. (G)
->
-> HN> I do the same, but try to make the plating as pleasing as I
->  HN> can....sometimes I think it works....sometimes not so much (grin).
->
-> Depends on what the meal is. Yesterday we grilled some lamb (forget the
-> cut but it was thin like steak), served it with kasha--quick cooking for
-> after church and nuked some frozen broccoli. The broccoli added much
-> needed color to the plates.
->
A good "harvest" time meal! Last night we went to the end of season banquet
for employee's of the Mariners...not as good a meal as last year...the
Chicken in dijon sauce was just so so, the cheese tortellini never appeared
(seems the two head chefs had a tiff and one walked out), and the roasted
root vegetables were barely roasted and had almost no caramelizing going
for them, the seasoned rice was horrid, but the desserts were
INCREDIBLE!!!! Chocolate mousse with something crunchy in it and shavings
of bittersweet chocolate and whipped cream (fresh) on top, and a raspberry,
strawberry with blueberries compote to put on top of it...and some
chocolate cookies that were halfway between brownies and fudge they were so
rich! Silly folks had my team seated right by the desserts too! we all had
one small plate of "dinner" and then several refills on the mousse! It was
the best mousse I've ever had!

-> ->  HN> dark,
-> ->  HN> bittersweet chocolate....we each had 1/4 bar for dessert with
tea
-> -> HN> (coffee for me!) in the evening....Anne thinks it was well worth
->  HN> the
-> ->  HN> price!
->  HN> ->
-> -> We were over to Brighter Day today and got some extra dark
stuff--mine
-> -> with mint, Steve's with chili peppers. Also got some Newman's Own
dark
-> -> chocolate pb cups and mint cups as well as the wheat berries, soy
beans,
-> -> etc we'd come for.
->
-> HN> I LOVE the dark rich chocolate with chile's in it! Has Steve tried
to
-> HN> make hot chocolate with chiles in it? OH BOOY!
->
-> No, he hasn't. I suspect he will consider it now that the weather is
-> beginning to cool off a bit. He ate his pb cups today and thought them
-> to be very good.
->
I'll be making some Ibarra mexican hot chocolate this weekend, it's gonna
be cold and wet..good time for stews and hot chocolate!
chat with you soon
