Oh, where do I start! Moxie's is a chain, a marketing concept, a
sham of a real restaurant. They have an image of being young and
hip, self-styled "upscale casual", a place to gather and be seen.
This image is completely manufactured.... by them. It is in fact a
very ordinary eatery with popular but ordinary dishes like burgers,
fries, chicken wings and wraps. The decor is all trendy slick
without substance. The menu names are "cutesy". I already hated the
place.

Our waiter was overly friendly (telling us his name repeatedly, even
though he wore a name tag, and that he was OUR server and there to
cater to our every smallest whim, while squatting on his heels by our
table and extolling all the simply fabulous dishes on his totally
awesome menu, flirting with Roslind and Lily (he was about 20), and
making inane remarks to me about being out with two hot babes. I
began to hate him too.

And yet he managed to be condescending at the same time as if people
over fifty are too clueless to eat at such a trendy spot as his. I
told him Lily had to return to work in less than 50 minutes and we
wanted to order quickly and choose dishes that could be prepared and
brought to the table quickly. He responded very haughtily that good
food should be savoured in a relaxed atmosphere like I was some
uncouth country bumpkin who didn't know how to behave in a
restaurant. I told him to shut up and take our order; I was really
getting to dislike him intensely.

We ordered the drinks we wanted: scotch neat for me, gin and tonic
for Roslind, nothing for Lily (who was working). He started promoting
all his cutely named umbrella drinks and house specialties. And he
suggested a Shirley Temple to me for Lily! I cut him off and told
him to bring the order. He asked if we wanted to "moxie-size" them.
I declined. He asked again pointing out what a great deal they were.
I said very pointedly, "If I wanted a double, I would have ordered
one. Go get the drinks."  I was considering killing him.

I ordered the house burger without cheese. He tried to push the
cheese as it just wouldn't be a true Moxie burger without all that
ooey gooey wonderful grill melted cheese. I very curtly repeated
that I wanted a burger with all the condiments and toppings
advertized on the menu, with the exception of the cheese; that I
wanted a completely cheese-free burger (I was beginning to think I
was in a Monty Python sketch by now.) By now, killing is too good
for him.

He skipped, swished, pranced and danced over to the bar and then
into the kitchen, singing to the canned music playing away. (Which
was: I'm too sexy for my shirt, I'm too sexy for Milan, I'm a model,
you know what I mean, and I do my little turn on the catwalk.)
Lovely, that really improved my appetite. I want to kill him very
painfully and slowly.

The drinks came quickly. After a long delay with no food he offered
more drinks, which were declined. So he offered them again. I told
him to tell the kitchen to make the meals to go as we were running
out of time. In 45 minutes (it wasn't busy that day) two out of
three meals arrived, plated, not packaged to go. One order was
completely wrong, one order was missing, and on the third, the fries
were white, underdone, limp and dripping with grease. And the burger
had cheese on it. He definitely had to be killed.

At this point we got up to go leaving the food on the table. I let
him know quite bluntly that the service was poor, his attitude
obnoxious, the food slow, wrong and poorly done so I had no
intention of paying for it or ever returning. He seemed to think
rather strongly that I should pay for the drinks and didn't seem to
notice that by now I was red in the face and trembling with anger
with the veins sticking out in my neck. He mentioned calling the
police. I told him to do just that while I called the health
department. He still didn't catch on. He stepped in front of me as I
was leaving and I straight armed him, knocking him ass over tea
kettle. My last shot was that the police would be more interested in
the coke in the kitchen than an unpaid drink tab. He went absolutely
pale. I guess I hit a nerve.

We went back to the store where Lily worked and I went to the food
court for A&W burgers for the girls to eat in the staff room between
customers. I was too worked up to eat. After two years I still want
to kill him.

That's a few of the highlights. I could go into detail on how
atrocious the experience was and how I really felt but there's a
hundred line limit here.
