An animal, regardless of its brain power, only needs to live long
enough to reproduce sufficiently well as to maintain its species.
Diabetes in senility serves to remove the no longer fertile from
consuming food which could be better used by the young.

As cud-chewing ruminants can thrive on a mainly cellulose diet, which
crud-chewing omnivores cannot, it is apparent that their metabolic
systems are different, but once the natural diet and ambulatory nature
of the cow's habits are changed to grain and sugar feeding without
accompanying exercise, I would expect their bodies' ability to deal
with excess sugar to be affected in a similar way to humans'.

Many medics do become number-obsessed.  That is a condition associated
with excessive adulation of expensive blood gas analysers and other
highly technical machinery and blind acceptance of the doctines
expounded by their salesmen.  In your case, where you eat a diet quite
variable in nature and quantity, the effect on your instantaneous level
of blood sugar could be considerable, but not necessarily unhealthy.

      Title: BROADBEANS WITH FETA & DILL

      Yield: 2 servings
 
    200 g  Beans- broadbeans; shelled
           ; 700g unshelled
           EVOO
     50 g  Feta cheese; goat, OR
     50 g  ; soft cow's feta
      1 tb H- dill; chop fine
 
  Bring a pan of lightly salted water to the boil. Add the broadbeans &
  cook for 4 minutes, or till tender. Drain the beans, remove their
  pale-green skins if desired, & drizzle with olive oil.
  
  Crumble the feta over the beans, sprinkle with dill & serve.
