Ärende: breakfast food 341
==========================
 ML> Hoppel Poppel
ML> cat: Penn Dutch, traditional, fancied up, main, breakfast
 ML> servings: 4 to 6
RH> I've seen similar. My parents were just trying to stretch a dollar and
RH> fill our stomachs; "fancy" cooking was not on their mind. The fancy
RH> stuff does look much better tho. (G)

There's an in between that we could be happy with, I think.
If one could afford a better meat than cheap hot dogs, that
would majorly improve the dish. Also onions, to my taste,
would be an absolute must.

ML> Accompany hoppel poppel with toast or toasted bagels.
RH> All we had was cheap white bread (not even toasted) with inexpensive
RH> margerine (tasted nothing like butter) to go with it.

"But it was a hoppel popple TO US," apologies to Monty Python.

==

ML> I found the quality of the smoking pretty high (they did tend to
ML> do so very enthusiastically, so [Dakin's] food is very smoky)
RH> We had the Canadian bacon and regular bacon--OK, but not great.

Carol didn't like the bacon. I found it quite palatable.

RH> Cute but..........had a discussion in Sunday School yesterday about
RH> why people seem to disobey written laws faster than they disobey
RH> unwritten laws. God originally didn't want to write down the 10
RH> commandments but did so on Moses' persuasion. We know the rest of the
 RH> story.

I didn't know that written laws were more subject to being broken
than unwritten ones. Perhaps unwritten ones can be sort of bent?
Or maybe they're taught differently. If you've memorized something
you might be more inclined to obey it than if you had to look it
up in a book.

In any case the advantage of written law is that if there's any
detail to it, and it doesn't just deal with first principles,
the detail can be transmitted accurately. Is there necessarily
a tradeoff?

      Title: Pecan Cinnamon Muffins
 Categories: Muffins, Breads, Breakfast
   Servings: 4

  1 1/2 c Unbleached flour, sifted 1/4 c Sugar
1/4 c Brown sugar, packed 2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt 1/2 ts Ground cinnamon
1 Large egg, slightly beaten 1/2 c Vegetable oil
    1/2 c Milk 1/2 c Chopped pecans

Sift together flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon
into mixing bowl. Combine egg, oil and mil in small bowl; blend well. Add
all at once to dry ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten. Stir in
pecans. Spoon batter into greased 2 1/2-inch muffin-pan cups, filling each
2/3rds full. Bake in 400 degree F. oven 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve hot with butter and homemade jelly or jam. Serving Hint: Match the
mood of your mealtime by using a variety of pretty napkins to line a muffin
basket. For a picnic, choose a red and white checked napkin; for special
dinners, use your finest linen napkins; and for Christmas, of course, a
  bright red napkin. Source unknown
