Where I went to school in Massachusetts, everything belonged to and/or was
supplied by the school.  Books, writing and drawing materials, everything.
Every so often, we'd get to keep the wooden rulers or something that were due
for replacement.  When I moved down here where the parents had to not only buy
everything, but buy it all anew each year, I was not happy.  Cheaper by far for
the school to buy everything in large amounts, I would think.

That's one way.  I've seen suggestions in the paper that perhaps you could put
forward another year, of older children collecting for UNICEF or a local food
bank.  I didn't really otherwise like to see older children coming for trick or
treat, nor did I appreciate parents coming around with only a clueless young
baby.  I keep my light turned off on Halloween, nowadays.
