=====================
Hi Hap,

-> HN> damage that I might not be able to walk unassisted anymore. So I
 HN> quit
->  HN> around and don't relish the
-> HN> thought of being wheelchair bound if I can prevent it. So while I
->  HN> might really WANT to bunjee jump, I know I won't.

-> I know the feeling. I wrecked my right knee whie in college and to keep
-> it functional I've had to give up a lot of activity. OTOH, at age 7 I
-> broke my left elbow; at the time, the doctor said that if I ever did it
-> again, it would be unrepairable. I did it again, 40 years later and
-> have about 95% of original function. But, the doctor that repaired it
-> this time gave me the same warning so now I'm over cautious with it (and
-> other joints). BTW, the foot is doing better overall; it still hurts if
-> I've been on my feet overly much but it's much better than it was, even
-> a year ago.

 HN> Medical advances over the past 40 years or so have been tremendous,

Yes, I've been a beneficiary of some of them.

 HN> and I hope the advance rate stays that good or better for the next 40.
 HN> That said however spinal injuries are still one of the most life
 HN> altering and most difficult to treat and heal from. I am happy to hear

Very much so; I hope I never have to deal with one.

 HN> that your foot problem has progressed to the point where you feel
 HN> comfortable on it for an
 HN> extended length of time! Are you still doing physical therapy for it?

Never did any PT on it. I'm wearing my western boots today, no problems
with an aching foot. I had to go down to Winn to see my surgeon--the
infection is all healed and we can plan the next stage in the DCIS
issue. Need another mammogram (scheduled), a bit more surgery and then
the radiation. As it looks now, I'll probably start the latter right
around the end of December or beginning of January. Gives me time to
work on stocking the freezer a bit more.

-> HN> mind me cooking it for myself at home..but my thoughts are why cook
-> HN> two meals at the same time? ->

-> Same here. I was thinking of cooking some while Steve's folks were here
-> but that trip got postponed until who knows when. Steve would have
-> eaten a bit but I'd have had some other meat for him, same sides most
-> likely.

 HN> This weekend I'll do a crock pot pulled pork recipe that will be the
 HN> mainstay of several of next week's meals.

Sounds good to me. I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow but probably
something that can carry us over for Sunday (and beyond).

-> -> Same here; it used to be a meal stretcher when the girls were home,
 HN> same
-> -> as sloppy joes or taco salad. Now that it's the 2 of us, meat goes
-> -> further.

-> HN> Living as a couple again certainly has it's perks!

-> Sure does! We don't even have a cat, dog, bird or fish to worry about
-> so we can just get up & go whenever we want (outside of work schedules).

 HN> We have a dog, a bird, and a bunch of fish, but we still manage to be
 HN> a bit footloose when we want to be!

I presume you've got short notice pet sitters available.

-> HN> It is a good pizza, but at that price we don't get it often (also
-> HN> a higher carb meal than we usually go for anymore as well).

-> We've cut back from the once a week we had it when we were younger.
-> Most of the time we've had it, it's been home made.

 HN> We cut back as well, we usually only go out for the pizza once a month
 HN> or less now.

And I'll make it maybe once a month (or less).

-> HN> I picked up a really nice acorn squash at the local farmer's market
-> HN> and will be using it in a soup this evening!

-> Sounds good to me. We got a butternut squash at the commissary I'll be
-> roasting up soon.

 HN> I made a very simple soup from the acorn squash, I steamed the squash
 HN> and put it into a pot with 1 can of chicken broth, two cups of half
 HN> and half (fat free in our case) one sautee'd onion and a nice dollop
 HN> of light sour cream...it was superb! Had to add a wee bit of salt and
 HN> a pinch of nutmeg but all in all simple was gooood! it was a big
 HN> squash so the soup was very thick and there was plenty of it, enough
 HN> that I froze half of the leftovers and used the other half for dinner
 HN> last night with grilled cheese (and ham) sandwiches.

Sounds good. We had lunch at the Winn DFac. The baked fish I had was
over seasoned mush; I told Steve I've been spoiled by good fish. He had
a cornish game hen half, said it was OK but not great.

Catch you later,
