If we drink the Sutter for T-day, might do that then.  I know it sounds flakey
but the wine rack is also a sort of 'display' so it looks better if there is 
a range of bottles, not of the same type.

Yup!  The type we take to mostly, is called 'table wine' which we gather is a 
decent plonk with dinner, not overtly dry, crisp, fruity, or sweet but can be a

little of any of those as long as not too strongly so.  In my past I've found
any italian wine that says 'table wine' suits us well.  We've also liked any
South American ones we have tried.

We actually aren't hard to please so we can stick with the cheaper ones, which
at the base seem to be about 50% off the prices we see others quoting.  Thats 
why we can get what the rest of you might say is an 18$ bottle, for 8.99$.

The exchange doesnt stock the really upper end stuff that's over 50$ (100$ or 
so out in town) but plenty of it is 15$ or more (again, roughly double for 
comparison).

Oh, on exchange shopping, not all things are that much less and some things are
actually more because they often don't have the cheaper brands.  Like they 
didnt have any TV's except the higher end units for close to 1,000$.  They had
no winter coats for as cheap as a local mall store (local mall had a quite 
acceptable fluffy down one for 14.99$).  One of the common military complaints
about our exchanges (BX etc for other branches) is they tend to carry only the 
top line brands and even if they are significantly cheaper there, they still
cost more.  When I needed a black purse for work, I snagged one at Kmart for 
10$.  I couldnt find one in black (uniform requirement) for less than 65$ at
the exchange.  Although the exchange one was clearly a better brand (Dior I 
think it was) and many of them were really nice (for 165$!!!) I just needed a
simple thing. The Kmart one is just fine for my needs and not at all 'cheap'
 looking.  In fact, it looks alot like that Christian Dior bag <g>.

GA Ruth can tell you the same thing about the commisary system.  I'll pay less
for a Del Monte brand vegetable can, but there won't be a cheaper store brand
option.  They generally save you a bundle on meats and overall you can make 
quite a savings, but price checking can show an ancillary trip to Kroger or
BJ's
can reduce the bill quite a bit more.  Like I just got a jar of Dukes Mayo at
Kroger vice the Hellmans at the commisary for 75cents more.

Rambling on here, I really like that Kroger seafood department.  Last trip,
they
had only 1/2 a case.  Why?  They didnt like the looks of a shipment so refused
it and put out only what was GOOD and FRESH.  The fellow even told me upfront
that the Ahi was still fine for cooked tuna, but was a little past prime for 
sashimi.  (he remembered me!).  It was on reduced price as is proper in a case
like that.  It was still safe to eat as sashimi, but the flavor was a bit
pallid
(we tried a sliver, that slightly less firm texture but no fishy aroma yet).

The salmon and shrimp were all pre-frozen but the price matched pre-frozen
product.  The commisary stuff was pre-frozen too but the price was not as cheap
and the quality didnt look as good.  I got some salmon fillets at 3.99lb and 
some catfish that was so fresh, I think it was swimming that morning <g>.
