JARGON ALERT: I consider myself to be well read and able to work out 
most things from context. But, sometimes jargon gets me. What is a "jody 
call" and what is its origin???

The largest plane that I have flown in that I enjoyed was a B-17G. If 
the aeroplane is larger than 4 places the flight is about as exciting as 
a ride in a subway car.

      Title: Mexican Christmas Eve Salad

      Yield: 7 servings
 
MMMMM---------------------------SALAD--------------------------------
      1 bn Small red beets
           -=OR=-
      4 md Red beets
    1/2 bn Frisee; washed and dried,
           - leaves separated (light
           - green parts only)
      1 bn Watercress; trimmed, washed
           - and dried
      1    Head endive; leaves
           - separated
      1 md Jicama; peeled cut in
           - matchsticks
      2    Oranges; peeled and
           - sectioned, juice reserved
      3 tb Coarsely chopped cilantro
           Salt
    1/2 c  Shelled salted roasted
           - peanuts
    1/4 c  Pomegranate seeds

      1    Shallot; fine chopped
    1/2 ts Coarse salt; more to taste
      1    Serrano chile; fine chopped
  1 1/2 tb Champagne vinegar
      1 tb Lime juice
      2 tb Orange juice (from segmented
           - oranges)
      6 tb Mild olive oil
 
  This elegant salad from South to North columnist Jacqueline Higuera
  McMahan is an updated version of a traditional Mexican Christmas Eve
  dish. It's great for a party because all the ingredients can be
  prepared in advance, kept refrigerated and tossed together at the
  last minute before serving.
  
  Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Trim the beets, leaving about 1 inch
  of stem. Place the beets in a single layer in a glass baking dish,
  sprinkle lightly with water and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
  Roast until the beets are tender when pierced with a knife, about 45
  minutes. Let the beets cool, then peel and cut into wedges. Set aside.
  
  For the dressing: Combine the shallot, 1/2 teaspoon salt and the chile
  in a small bowl. Add the vinegar, lime and orange juices. Let sit for
  a few minutes until the shallots soften. Whisk in the olive oil.
  Adjust salt to taste.
  
  To finish the salad: Gently toss the frisee, watercress and endive
  with a few tablespoons of the dressing, just enough to coat. Spread
  the greens on a serving platter or individual plates.
  
  Toss the jicama and oranges with some of the cilantro, a pinch of salt
  and a few tablespoons of the dressing. Distribute over the greens.
  
  Lightly toss the beets with a little dressing and more cilantro (this
  is done last to keep the colors separate). Scatter over the salad.
  Garnish with the peanuts and pomegranate seeds and another sprinkle
  of cilantro.
  
  Serves 6 to 8
