HI Dale!
->
-> -> HN> Grin! I've spent almost all my life more than 25 miles from
->  ->  HN> my birthplace!
->  ->
-> -> And this past summer I returned to the state of my birth for the
first
-> -> time in 66 years:-}} We went to Missouri to see our son graduate
from
-> -> a military training school at Ft. Leonard Wood.
->
->  HN> Ah you're like me, a rolling stone!
->
-> And like you, not any more. For the first 20 years of our marriage,
-> we averaged two years per residence -- with never more than three
-> years in any one. Then we stayed put. We've been continuously at the
-> same address for almost 30 years.

It's nice to travel, and live in various places
and I wouldn't trade it for the world...but it's
also nice to have a "harbor" to come back to and
just drop anchor! It's also nice when things like
the following come up because you have a network
that works with/for you.
Anne really gave me a scare this week, Monday she went
to school as normal, driving her carpool partner. Monday
afternoon I knew she'd be staying very late as it's report
card week, and while she's got all of her's done before
Thanksgiving, her carpool partner is a much newer teacher
and is still learning the process. Anne called me about
5 pm with some (at the time) slightly worrisome news. She
was having a bout of bloody diarrhea. I told her to let
the carpool partner know and to call her Dr's office and
see what they wanted to do. Then come home so I could take
care of her. About 20 min later her carpool partner called
and said she was light headed and still having bouts of
bloody diarrhea. The Doc's office had made an appt for
thursday morning. I told the carpool partner to drive her
home (his car was parked at our house) as quickly and
carefully as he could. When she got home she immediately
had another bout of the diarrhea and when I saw it I KNEW
we could not wait till thursday to take care of it! Called
the "on call" doc and let him know how severe it was,
he said:"Head straight to the hospital, I'll call and
get you set up for direct admission." We got do the
Hospital (where Anne used to work before Amanda was born)
with Anne only (mostly) passing out once along the way.
Got her into her room pronto and she kept having bloody
diarrhea throughout the night...so much so that they
ended up putting two units of packed red blood cells
in her. VERY scary for both of us, but the folks at the
hospital are trained for those things and were quick,
efficient, and very gentle. They did get Anne stabilized
and the bleeding seemed to slowly taper off. Tuesday
the GI specialist and her doctor came by and discussed
the possibilities, and some of them sure weren't good!
The scheduled a colonoscopy for Wednesday morning (as
they had to "prep" her with the stuff that evacuates
and clean the bowels). Tuesday afternoon was spent in
that process and while there was some blood evident, it
was certainly not the fresh bright red that we had
experienced at the onset. Wednesday morning they wheeled
her in for the looksee, and she and I spent the rest of
the day waiting for information on what the poopersnooper
had seen. FINALLY at about 4:30pm the GI specialist's Nurse
practitioner came by and let us know what they had found.
About a 2cm ulcer up near the secum (waay up at the top
of the large intestine). Which was no longer bleeding,
and showed signs of healing and no likelyhood of "rebleeding".
The evident cause of the ulcer was Anne's having been on
Naproxin Sodium (aleve) for the previous two weeks treating
an inflamed tendon in her heel! The upshot is we won't be
using aleve or asperin or ibuprofen on her without a strong
need in the future! Once I heard this news (can you spell
relief!!) I came home to care for Scuppers and Jonesy and
bring Anne's clothes back to the hospital so she could come
home Thursday am. On the way back to the hospital with her
clothes she called me on her cellphone and let me know her
doctor was there, and said if she wanted, she could check
out and come home immediately! Needless to say I was happy
to hear that! We got her out of there in record time! Now
she's home and resting comfortably....she'll stay out of
school today and tomorrow but will go back on Monday....
hopefully as good as new! Happily there seems to be no
permanent damage, and they didn't prescribe any treatment
or and restrictions on her diet....of course I'll be making
it easy on her for the next few days but it's GOOD to have
her home!
chat with you soon
