I don't normally either although I have a simple recipe for the really thin
light shrimp shells.  Pretty much you heavily pepper them (black pepper) and
then fast fry them for a little snack.  Not my normal nosh but I've done it
out of curiousity a few times.  Charlotte doesnt like those and Don is
ambivalent on them, preferring to save them for a soup stock.

Ohh, it's a lovely day today!  Just that sort of cloudy almost rainy but not
quite sort of thing.  It's cool and last of that weather possibly before we
hit the heat-zone.  AC is off and the windows are all open.  I'm on my first
day of leave for the next 3 weeks.  Expect some new recipes to be born!

Don's had some sporadic trouble too but the Docs at the base say it's just
going to be that way and to rest it when it hurts.  It's not re-broken or
anything, just weather sensitive now.  Like my ankle that I broke back in
bootcamp and crackles when I walk most of the time.  I ignore it but am not
good at sneaking up on people (grin).  As long as I wear high-top sneakers
when running, it doesnt really bother me much.

I'm trying to get Don to take vitamins regular but he's not terribly good about
it.  He's also taking 'glucosamine' for arthritis and it seems to help in a
gentle slow way.

Thats one of the few things I don't care much for.  I've determined a goodly
part of that is the cooking style (with vinigar) that most use for it and have
some variations of my own that work for us, but I tend to just aviod getting
that one.  Odd as I love 'greens' except mustard, collard, and turnip types.
Even those though in milder mixes work for me.  There's a Japanese one that is
close to the flavor of the turnip green (looks more like a nappa cabbage leaf
though) which I use in soups at times.  That green grocer with the mark down
bin is where I pick up a few leaves of that.

I told Charlotte when she went off with Elise and the flock, that if they
change directions and go there instead or on the way as they wander, to get
whatever looks good for the soup pot.  Elise was headed to the base but said
they may also wander back up to the Tonoo area.  When she left, the flock was
just 5 kids with 3 of them being 12 or over.  The youngest one was Michelle
who's 8 or near that.

I've mentioned these little shopping trips many times and this is the normal
one, with each kid having a backpack and both yen and dollars.  This time they
also have umbrellas.  There's a rumor that some new games showed up at the
exchange so Charlotte will be allowed to put 1 game on 'layaway' for us to get
later.  That way she doesnt need 35$ and we can make sure it's compatible with
her game systems before we pay for it.  I call it 'layaway' but it's slightly
different and a bit of a local thing.  The parents write a note saying what
the kid is allowed to put aside (can be a dollar amount or a specific item)
and then have 3 days to come by and pick it up.  If they do not come by in 3
days, it goes back on the shelf with 'no harm, no foul'.

Charlotte is of age to be allowed to do it (have to be 12).  Younger kids have
to have an older one or an adult with them to be allowed to do it (Michelle
for example isnt allowed yet but Elise can put something aside for Michelle's
Mom to decide on).  I think there is a top money amount allowed but that's
more a sanity check.  Like, probably 100$ would be the max?  Probably only 3
items allowed too or something like that.  It's used for largish amount items
like 'over 20$' for the most part, but under 50$.  Useful when getting kids
clothing for school and no 'charge' to do it, just a rather short time to
pickup.
