===========================
Hi Carol,

Time for getting off my feet for a few minutes. I just finished cutting
up veggies and meat for a beef stew for tonight's supper. It's a "clean
out fridge and freezer" meal; the other option would have been curry.

CS> Yeah, we dont get the big fireworks this time. They had a short
CS> advance show that night of the 2nd (not much really) and obviously
CS> planned more but were rained out the 4th.

RH> Are they going to reschedule them? Seems, if everything was set up an
RH> in place, it could be done relatively easy.

CS> Possibly but no word on it. Town's vacant now as the ship pulled out.

Sounds like Schofield will be in a few months with about half the post
deploying. Still, it's beter than a couple of years ago when 2/3 were
gone.

CS> There's another one behind this one so waiting to see what that will
CS> do. I expect to see the ships back by tomorrow though if not this
 CS> afternoon.

Routine stuff I presume.

CS> If nothing else, we'll have a really nice New Years fireworks show.

Yes, you should. I won't miss having fireworks shot off on both 4th of
July and New Year's once we move. In 1987, we visited Berlin (from
Frankfurt) and stayed in a guest house on the economy but near the one
American installation over July 4th week end. The moring of the 5th,
the German guests were all abuzz about the fireworks th night before and
wanted to know why. We put it simple by saying "Americanish Geburtztag"
and they understood. There were quite a few fireworks in Berlin in
October, 90 when the country re-united; I was there for that.

RH> McDs inside the store & had M&M McFlurries.

CS> Oh Charlotte had one of those a bit ago. She was curious as the

RH> They have other flavors; the M&M is my favorite. Here, the guy barely

CS> Thats the one she had. She's not much on sweets so just part of it
 CS> was enough.

If she stays that way all her life, she will be better for it.

RH> We're talking, but have to wait & see if we need to buy a new car
RH> sooner, rather than later. You just keep him aware of the computer en

CS> Sound slike you will need the car first. Oh well!

Yes, the one we bought in Berlin in November, 91 (92 model) but actually
got in April of 92 is giving up the ghost. Actually, Steve's dad got it
for us in January, 92 just before it went on the boat headed to Germany.

RH> We will be getting a new car (see above). Good thing we've not needed
RH> to dip into savings much the past couple of years--and been adding
RH> goodly amounts to it.

CS> I wish ours were better but we arrived here with 20,000$ worth of
CS> bills and are now bill free with that much in the bank too so aint
 CS> complaining.

We didn't owe that much and won't have that in savings but enough for a
good down payment. Steve wants to pay it off in 3 years.

RH> We officially fly in about 7 weeks and a couple of days. Went back to
RH> Tripler for my foot (new doctor) today; he had x-rays shot & they show
RH> the bone is all healed. He thinks I'm wearing the boot too much, not
RH> enough time in the "shoe" & that's why it's still hurting--not being
RH> "challenged" enough & relying on the boot for strength. I told him th

CS> Ok! Remember my wrist? The one that it turned out was wrapped up too
CS> long? That was part of the trouble so he may be right. There's a time
CS> where the 'crutch' needs to go and you may at last be there, having
CS> once taken it away a bit too soon.

I'm sort of hesitant; I wear the shoe most of the time vs the boot & it
doesn't give that much support. I did OK yesterday wearing a pair of
oxford type shoes and staying off my feet most of the day (my biggest
problem), propping them (mostly) when I was off. But, it was still
hurting enough for extra meds last night.

CS> Serious suggestion? Get some hightopped tennies. They may not be
CS> your normal 'style' but for a bit, they made a big difference for Don.

"Normal" for me has been sandals the past 5 years. (G) Other than that,
walking shoes, occaisional oxford types or dress heels and rarely the
western boots.

CS> That and those sturdy high topped working boots I got him. They
CS> cushion and add a stiffness along the ankle so you cant turn the foor
CS> wrong, but arent as restrictive as those walking boots. Expect to pay
CS> more for hightopped tennies. Unless they are kids keds (might work
CS> but you should try to get better), the running type cost around 70-80$
CS> but are worth it compared to a broken foot! They should reach to
CS> about 3 inches above the ankle-bone that sticks out though 2 inch
CS> above is ok as well as 5 inch above.

I'll look, as I've a tendancy to turn my ankle a lot.

CS> Also I think a heel of anytype wouldbe bad if looking at 'ladies
CS> boots'. You want one pretty much 'flat like a tennis shoe'.

I rarely wear heels, even when on the mainland. Usually Sundays (but
not over here) and other times I've got to dress up.
