Yes, 'Sasebo Burgers' now are all over the place in Japan.  I gather the Moos'
burger places are a knock off on them.

;-)  True but 'Japanized' well to local tastes.  There are over 50 varients on
them here in Sasebo.  I even had one once with whale blubber (interesting and
actually gone back since for another as they were a match with the raw daikon
and pickled itty bitty red cherry-looking thingoids.  The whale was thin
slivered and added just the right touch of fat.

Yeah, standard and the Sasebo burger isnt famous for that treatment.  It's
famous for the other ways they make them and the 'umami' condiments (right
word?  That ephemeral match of flavors to make 2 distinct things a new whole?)

Ah but the pickeled cherries were in the rice ball, which came standard (fries
are extra).  The size of the rice balls were about 2 times that of a golfball,
wrapped around the pickled cherries with the stems peeking out (only
externally visible sign that they were there) then tied with a strip of
cabbage.

They are just called 'riceball with cherry' which shows how the Japanese here
use English <g>.  Pretty much a sushi style rice with little hidden gifts
inside.  You pour the little foil chocolate packets over it or the little
plastic ones of shoyu, depending on your tastes.
