*** Quoting Glen Jamieson from a message to Carol Shenkenberger ***

CS> Never did and it's past season for them now. Right now, the huge

GJ> I see you are still catching up; that was about a month ago.

Yup! Got 900 ahead of me! I've been a bit lax and need to catch up. Saw a
scarey note on Michael's father 'palsied talk' but nothing more yet. I hope
he's ok. I'm about 3 weeks behind on anything not sent to my own name.

CS> purple ones with thick skins, largish seeds, and may be true 'concord'

We do the same here with shopping habits. Seasonal food eating means you
always have a gluttony on something <g>. Meekans just now hitting in *droves*
and i've been contemplating trying to make 'orange marmalade' bu the commisary
sold out totally on fruit pectin packs and I'm not sure how to do it without
those. Self-taught cook and all has it's wierdnesses. (for the others or new
to the name Meekan, it's a mandarin orange which is very close to a small
tangarine but slightly sweeter and somewhat less tart).

CS> dropped down to about 100F but it went back up and was a good 109F when
CS> we came back a few mins ago. We stayed mostly inside so didnt suffer

GJ> If you want to save money and electricity, it is worth remembering

Ah but the glory of military housing is I do not have any electric bill. That
doesnt mean we are silly about it, but the AC for example has no temp setting,
just off/on/high'. The lower 'on' keeps us at comfort with around 90F. Right
now, we have the windows open and the AC off. It's about 94F or 35C. The
lines on the thermometer are kinda small but that should be close enough.
Dont need more than the fan and i actually have mild chill bumps when the fan
hits me. I'm sure you also acclimate to understand this though many other
readers here have not the same experience and would think 35C (94F)
sweltering. Me, at this season? Not even sweating. It was a mere 88F this
morning and i added a light overshirt layer (unbuttoned) for comfort.

GJ> for cold water to be given without asking, before even taking the

GJ> and most welcome if you have been walking outside in the heat. Your

Oh yes! Simple and perfect for what we needed on that trip.

 CS> got 2 wood spoons.

GJ> Wooden spoons are good, particularly for use with non-stick pans and
GJ> skillets, as they don't scratch, and can withstand higher a
GJ> temperature than plastic. Bamboo spoons and spatulas will take a
GJ> higher temperature than pine wood.

Oh I am sorry. Until I saw this, I didnt realize I didnt define these well. I
didnt mean the big cooking wood spoons, but the small eating ones. Shaped and
sized much like you'd use at dinner for your own plate. They are preferred
for eating 'rice porridge' (congee/juk) as there is not even the faintest of
metallic hint possible. They are smoothed and polished dark wood. One is a
roundish bowl type and the other is more 'American leaf shape'.

I suppose one not used to them would feel a bit odd eating off them as they are
thicker 'mouthfeel' but I am used to them and always liked eating off the
odder shaped spoons my Mom had anyways.

You know how socks always get eaten by the hidden sock-monster in the wash so
you get back just a singlit without it's mate? I have that problem with
spoons and have 15 forks but maybe 6 spoons. Gee, I know I bought them in
even amounts but... That or them dang forks are breeding in the dark of my
china cabinet! Humm. Maybe they are eating the spoons and using them as
breeding material!

CS> realized it. Sales lady explained it in pantomime well enough to catch

GJ> It would have been very easy for her to have allowed you, in your
GJ> ignorance to pay full price for two shirts, but nice that she was so
GJ> scrupulously honest in giving you the same benefits as her other,
GJ> local customers.

True! This case, I'd gotten just one and was ready to pay for it, and didnt
understand a second one was free. (2 for 1 deal in Japanese).
