Ärende: from the Hafflys 209

As you know, the Hafflys are on their way to their new posting
on the east coast: it appears that they flew to LA and then
picked up a car and will be driving for a while. No FIDO and
only sporadic Internet until they get to their destination.
This came a couple days ago:

The flight went well; I could support the leg on my cane.  A snack was 
offered but we'd eaten at a noodle shop in the airport and Steve just 
wanted to get some sleep.  I had some apple juice to wash down some 
meds, then sort of napped off and on.  A bit before landing, the 
attendants came around with juice or coffee; Steve had some of both
and I just had orange juice.

We've tried some new (to us) eateries but not been impressed with any 
of them.  Rachel got some chicken wings of various flavors (soy/garlic, 
mango/hot, spicy garlic, teriyaki, etc) for supper one night but they 
were a bit on the dry side.  Saturday night we went to the Las Vegas 
Hofbrauhaus; the kids thought it was pretty good for German food but 
Steve and I were disappointed.  We had much better at The Chef's Table 
in Honolulu when we went for my birthday.  My jagerschnitzel was covered 
with a white cream sauce, mushrooms, a couple of slices of bacon and 
French fried onions.  Steve had a half chicken, baked, which he admitted 
was ok but we both didn't like the spazele (too mushy, white flour) and 
red cabbage (way too sweet).

We visited Steve's former company commander last night at the 
Paris/Bally's casino.  They have a little crepes kiosk that Rachel had 
mentioned we try; we did.  Steve ordered the favorite--a crepe filled 
with various berries and smothered in whipped cream.  The CO is as much 
of a chocolate lover as I  am; we both had crepes filled with a liquid 
dark chocolate and smothered in whipped cream.  Decadent, but good.

We've also had lunch at a Del Taco (better than Taco Belle but who needs 
fries with Mexican food) and a  Panera  Bread Company sandwich place.  
The fillings we chose (sliced turkey for Steve, chicken salad for me) 
were outshined by the multi grain bread.  That is a place I would go to 
again but chose something different.  They also offered soups (too hot 
for this weather) and salads--a possible choice.

Well, I need to get this out.  We're headed out to get supper for all at 
a Chinese take out, probably something like Panda Express (kid's 
choice).  I'll update you on the various culinary adventures over the 
next few weeks. (G)  BTW, the new car (07 Ford Focus SES--wagon) is a 
nice little car for Steve and me; it will hold a good amount of cargo as 
well.
