One thing that surfaces with the news of the E. coli in
spinach scare is what a monopoly is enjoyed by this
manufacturer:

From the ebfarms.com site, the brands of spinach products
produced by Earthbound Farms:

Dole, Natural Selection Foods, Pride of San Juan, Earthbound
Farm, Bellissima, Rave Spinach, Emeril, Sysco, O Organic,
Fresh Point, River Ranch, Superior, Nature's Basket, Pro-Mark,
Compliments, Trader Joe's, Ready Pac, Jansal Valley, Cheney
Brothers, Coastline, D'Arrigo Brothers, Green Harvest, Mann,
Mills Family Farm, Premium Fresh, Snoboy, The Farmer's Market,
Tanimura & Antle, President's Choice, Cross Valley, Riverside
Farms.

(For those who care, also from the Website, recall products
include spinach and any salad with spinach in a blend, both

My brother, what a card department, last night:

1. He suggested cooking the spinach until all the germs
were clearly dead. I said, why? He reflected. "I guess
then the spinach would be murdered too."

2. He asked me if I'd ever Googled him. I said no. He
asked "Why not?"

3. He decided that his dinner of Lean Cuisine (don't ask
me) was really full-fat because he thought it tasted
full-fat.

      Title: SWEET 'N SOUR SPINACH SALAD
 Categories: Salads, Cyberealm, Vegetables, Kooknet
      Yield: 8 servings

           Dressing
      1 c  Oil
    3/4 c  Sugar
    1/3 c  Catsup
    1/4 c  Vinegar
      2 ts Worcestershire sauce
    1/4 ts Salt
           Salad
      8 c  Fresh spinach or salad-
           -greens torn into bite-
           -sized pieces
      1 c  Sliced fresh mushrooms
    1/2 c  Shredded carrots
      4    Thin slices red onion-
           -separated into rings
      2    Hard-cooked eggs-
           -chopped

  1. In a jar with a tight fitting lid, combine all dressing
     ingredients; shake well. Refrigerate to blend flavors.

  2. In a large bowl, combine all salad ingredients except eggs.

  3. Just before serving, add enough dressing to coat greens; toss
     gently. Top with chopped eggs and serve immediately.

  4. Refrigerate remaining dressing.
