Well, there's a learning curve for anything, Barb, so I wouldn't
worry about that if I were you.

It is possible to window shop eBay, but not as easily as it once was.
There are so many listings that it really helps to have an idea of what
you're looking for.  By starting at the main eBay page and browsing
categories, you can kill some time window shopping.

But it is more effective to sell by listing items as specifically as
possible. An analysis of the hits I receive on my auction shows that 
the majority of people landing at my auction are searching on a 
particular keyword - searching for the particular item I am selling -
and not randomly poking through pages of listings (though that does
happen, too.)

I have also found that people who have found my auctions via a 
keyword search usually spend more time reading my auctions than
people just browsing through.  The average keyword searcher spends
2 minutes 15 seconds on my listing, where as the average window 
shopper is only there for 25 seconds.  And people who spend a longer
time have been the ones who usually buy.

That's why it's worth it to spend some time researching items and 
writing good, thorough descriptions (and why I don't consider it a
waste of money to pay for the type of analysis software that lets
me know so much about my customers.)
