Ärende: Big Scare

Got a big scare Saturday evening with a call from Georgia's daughter 
Erin. She was calling from the ICU at Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL

Many of you know my baby sister from her attendance at various picnics 
and her (former) participation in this echo. 

Friday or Saturday she had a stroke while travelling to Macomb, IL with 
Erin. Erin took her to the Macomb hospital where they determined what 
was going on and stabilised Georgia. Since they didn't have the 
facilities/expertise to treat problem as thoroughly as needed she was 
choppered to Peoria Methodist which has a unit that specialises in 
treating stroke and cranial accidents.

She and Erin had asked that she be transported to Springfield where my 
brother Phil and I both live and which is closer to her home (and the 
rest of her family) than Peoria. But, apparently, the Spring-A-Leak 
hospitals are world famous for cardiac issues and are not set up 
properly to handle Georgia's type of problem any more than any general 
run of hospital/clinic. So, Peoria Methodist it was.

Phil and I drove up to see her in ICU last evening. I feel much better 
now although I am still pretty concerned. I have only had two 
connections to stroke victims - my mother, whose stroke was fatal. And 
my friend Don, whose stroke was a leaker vessel and, which, while 
painful and a hassle left him no more impaired than he had been before 
the stroke.

It appears that Georgia will come through this with most, if not all, 
flags flying. She was still a bit confused sometimes talking to Phil and 
I - thinking she was in Bloomington (dunno where that came from) and 
referring to one of our cousins as an aunt. But, Erin says that even 
this (sporadic) behaviour is a quantum leap from the previous day when 
she wobbled between recognising that Erin is her daughter to thinking 
that Erin was our mother ... which is what had Phil and I in a moderate 
panic.

We'll be putting a lot of miles on Phil's truck since her hospital is 
about 80 miles from us. So, if my participation here is a bit curtailed 
(again) that's why. I'll try to remember to keep y'all updated.
