Interestingly, I was flying on US Air, and they gave me a hotel
voucher and a food voucher. When I got to the hotel, of course,
there was no food to be had, and as the rebooking was on an
early flight, there was no time for breakfast, so with an empty
belly I used the $15 voucher on landing at Legal Seafoods in the
Boston terminal, where it paid for just half of lunch.

They tell you to hug the cushion to your chest, but I figure
using it like a backpack would make at least as much sense.

On the way back from Washington, I had 6A, the best coach
seat on the airplane (actually the best seat on the airplane),
and with my status on United, 6B was blocked off. Unfortunately,
there were two seat poachers - very brown looking, very fierce,
trying for 6C and D, the best seats from which to rush a cockpit.
Luckily, the rightful owners of those seats came and ejected them,
so they plopped themselves, unluckily, in 6B and E - I didn't
like it one bit, but the flight attendants didn't do anything.
Instead of sleeping, I kept an eye on my potential troublemaker
for the whole flight. He was extremely nervous and kept jostling
me so I couldn't sleep if I'd wanted to; he kept looking up
longingly at his backpack in the overhead, as though it had
something sharp or bangish that he needed. One of the few UA
flights I can say I wished I hadn't gotten on. Major sigh of
relief on the harbor approach and landing. In case of
anything awful happening, these seats had not only floating
seat cushions but also separate life vests.

There was a girl I liked once, and we went out a few times,
but she went on to bigger and better things; a few years
later, a notice in a variety store caught my eye - it gave
the winning lottery number, and, well, if I had been pining
away for this girl and playing her birthdate (month and day),
my birthdate, and our ages, I would have won over five
million bucks.

No problem. We'll do it relatively early in the day so
there's less chance for severed or lacerated digits.

Mushroom and meat kebabs
cat: main, Slovenian
servings: 6 to 8

40 dag mushroom caps (14 oz)
20 dag calf liver (7 oz)
20 dag veal (7 oz)
20 dag pork (7 oz)
2 onions, quartered
10 dag smoked bacon (3.5 oz)
1 ts marjoram
salt and pepper to taste
spicy oil for basting

Use only caps for this dish; ... use wooden skewers !

Slice meat into appropriate pieces, about the size of mushroom hats.
Skewer the meat and vegetables so that the series goes:
mushroom-onion-meat-onion-meat-mushroom-bacon-meat-onion-mushroom.
Sprinkle kebabs with marjoram and spicy oil, and grill until the meat
is done (about 10 min).
