My Grolier encyclopedia told me that the "Bambuseae" tribe is a member
of the Grass family.  They are characterised by having tubular stems
with joints.

I think that once formed into utensils, the wood might warp a bit, but
without affecting its integrity.  Cracking is most likely in very dry
conditions, so if you keep using your bamboo spatula and spoon, that
should keep them happy.

I have a 45 rpm record of it - somewhere.  As I heard it in a radio
broadcast recently, I assume that it would also be available on a CD.

Thanks, I looked that up. I have been to that church and listened to
the organ several times.  When I first saw and heard it, in 1972, it
was in very poor condition, but after its restoration in Germany it
was returned in full operating order in 1975, and every year since
then a festival of music has been held at St Joseph's church,
featuring international organists playing that unique instrument.

      Title: PORK & BAMBOO LUMPIA
 Categories: Starters, Pork, Filipino, Asia-se
      Yield: 20 servings
 
    500 g  Pork mince
    1/2 c  Oil- vegetable
    500 g  F- prawn mince
      1 md Onions; minced
      4 oz Bamboo shoots; minced
      8 oz Water chestnuts; minced
      1    Celery stalks; chop fine
      3    Garlic cloves; minced
      1 md Carrots; grated
    500 g  Beansprouts; chop
    1/2 c  Dryf- sultanas; chop
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Sp- pepper, ground
     20    LUMPIA WRAPPER TRIANGLES
           CHILLI-PINEAPPLE SAUCE
 
  Saute the pork in a tablespoon oil in a wok for 3 or 4 minutes, or
  till the pinkness has gone, & it is thoroughly cooked. Drain the
  excess fat. Add the prawn, onion, water chestnut, bamboo shoots,
  celery, garlic & carrot & stir-fry 3 or 4 minutes, or till
  tender-crisp. Add the beansprouts, sultanas, salt & pepper & continue
  stirring another minute or two, till the beansprouts are limp. Spoon
  the mixture into a strainer & cool, allowing as much liquid as
  possible to drain.
  
  One at a time, lay each wrapper triangle flat. Place 2tb of cooled
  filling in the centre & fold in the corners to form a pouch. Seal the
  edges with a little water. Repeat till all the wrappers are used.
  
  Fry the lumpias in the remaining oil for 3 to 4 minutes for 3 to 4
  minutes, or till golden brown. Be careful not to burn.
  
  Serve with CHILLI-PINEAPPLE SAUCE.
