======================
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> pillows and blankets back there and we kids would at least attempt
-> RH> (sorta) to sleep and stay out of our parents' hair.

-> My parents never put pillows or blankets in for our trips. Most of the
-> trips to New Jersey were only 3-4 hours, longer trips we could sleep

RH> It as about that for us too, but often it was at night and as little
RH> kids it was easier to get us to conk out laying down. Then the

We usually took off after school got out, in the morning after breakfast
or after lunch.

RH> seatbelt police got going, the station wagon died of old age, and that
 RH> was that.

Probably about the time my folks stopped doing it too, about the time I
hit college. But, they still bought station wagons for a few years
beyond--when my youngest sister went to college, they had to put the
cartop carrier (a fair sized box my dad built) up to carry all her
stuff. Part of that was due to the fact she couldn't pack worth beans
and had a lot of useless space.

-> RH> We went camping precisely once - we weren't dumb enough to try that

-> It was the only way we could afford vacations. Dad had been in Boy
-> had no floors--then we hit a gulley-washer of a rainstorm the last night
-> out the 3rd year. Before we went out again, the tents were upgraded to

RH> I'd hope! It's bad enough getting wet outside. Getting wet inside is

It was not fun, believe me! Years later, the one summer when we camped
in Switzerland with friends, it was more fun even tho it rained most all
of the time. That was the trip when JOe spilled the spaghetti sauce all
over the stove and ground so we combined their pasta with our chili.

RH> a bit much. OTOH, it reminds me of one time I was working retail and
RH> the flat roof on the building decided it had had enough.... The
 RH> dropped celing , well..., dropped. (G)

No fun; hope the store had good insurance.

-> RH> I've thought about it; I'm not into cookie cutter jewelry.

-> No, mine would be different.

RH> I've been sketching stuff for years, but never had a way to make any
RH> of it come to life.

I did back in high school but nothing now like what I had then. I'm
still sketching tho. (G)

-> Not that I know of. Besides, I used close to $10. in coupons on
-> Saturday--ones clipped since we got here.

RH> Have you been able to play CVS Extra Bucks Bingo yet? The CVS
RH> pharmacy chain gives "extra bucks", coupons that can be used like cash
RH> on future purchases, when you buy certain items. Those items change
RH> from week to week. It's Bingo when they pay out more in Extra bucks
RH> than you spent in cash for the products.

No, we've not been to the CVS store yet.

-> And now Steve has my machines installed.........

RH> Yeaaaah! Hi ho! Hi Ho! I just looked up a pattern for a corn bag
RH> neck wrap. Now if I could just remember when it came from .... One
RH> of those nukerator heating pad things.

You can make them from dish towels (the terry type); cut it in half the
long way and make two. Selvedges from the short ends are good handle
length.

-> RH> stairs can get interesting. My balance isn't any worse than it

-> Mine used to be pretty good but time has taken its toll.

RH> Mine went south when I hit 5'2" and never came back. I kept
 RH> growing.:)

Well, I'm semi used to being a tripod now--see my note to Hap for the
latest update. It's frustrating in that I have only one hand free but,
I'm glad I do have one hand free.

-> it'll go into either the dining or family room. I've got to get rid of
-> a lot of boxes before that happens tho.

RH> Hmmm, boxes. Don't say boxes to someone cleaning the house out on
RH> Ebay. A good chunk of basement that used to be trains is now ...
 RH> boxes.

When you make a move, you get lots of boxes. (G)

-> This is an outdoor cat--a nice fluffy one! She got more attention from
-> us last night. (G)

RH> Sounds like my kind of kitty!

She seems pretty laid back.

-> Remember, I lived in this general area before.

RH> I never have. I've been that far south, but not in eons.

I've lived more of my life south of the Mason-Dixon line than above it.

-> RH> You didn't sneakernet any of them? I'm surprised!
 RH> ->
-> No, Steve bought me a little Janome machine tho while we were in guest
-> housing. It's now boxed and ready to send to younger daughter. Next
-> time we move, one is coming with me--probably the Brother since we got
-> it for "carry along" to classes, etc.

RH> Too bad you don't have one of those old Singer Featherweights.

I know; I've seen them different times but always when Steve has been in
the "What do you need ANOTHER sewing machine for?" mindsets. That's
what he gives me on the treadle too, and "where would you put it?".
He'll come round on that one eventually.

Catch you later,
Ruth
