Has nothing to do with vapours and/or liquids. There is only some much 
energy in a given amount of fuel. Regular gasoline has about 124K BTU of 
energy. That amount of energy will do a finite amount of work. From 
there is it a simple mathematical problem - and the fact that no matter 
how you vaporise or heat or cool or stir the gasoline there is only so 
much energy available in it.

BTW - the gasoline in an engine is in the form of fine droplets. It 
ain't a gas (vapour) until after it's ignited. Vapours outgassed from a 
bucket notwithstanding. The finer the droplet the better it will mix 
with the incoming air and the easier it will burn. And there are some 
(small) gains to be made by making the droplets more tiny.

I am not by any means an engineer - as Glen is - just a pretty good 
backyard mechanic who made my 337 cu in engines run competitively with 
stuff up to 512 cu in. And competed successfully with a 200cc motorcycle 
in a 250cc class. So, I do have a pretty good idea of what I am talking 
about here.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Shrimp, Cucumber, And Mango Salad
 Categories: Seafood, Salads, Squash, Fruits
      Yield: 6 servings
 
      4 lg Pickling cucumbers; peeled,
           -in 1/2" cubes (about 2
           -cups)
      1 lg Mango; peeled, pitted, in
    1/2    " cubes (about 1 1/2 cups)
      1 lb Cooked medium shrimp
      3 tb Chopped fresh dill
           Hot pepper sauce
     12    Bibb lettuce leaves

MMMMM--------------------------DRESSING-------------------------------
      3 tb Distilled white vinegar
      3 tb Sugar
      6 tb Dijon mustard
      6 tb Mayonnaise
 
  Mix vinegar and sugar in small bowl until sugar dissolves. Whisk in
  mustard and mayonnaise. Cover and chill. (Can be made 1 day ahead.
  Keep chilled.)
  
  Combine cucumbers, mango, shrimp, and dill in large bowl. Pour
  dressing over; toss to coat. Season with salt and hot pepper sauce.
  Arrange 2 lettuce leaves on each of 6 plates. Top with shrimp salad.
  
  What to drink: Sparkling wine would pair well with these sweet-spicy
  flavors.
  
  Makes 6 servings.
