=====================
Hi Carol,

CS> The one here is big. The design is wrong to add a kitchen table in
CS> there but I bet before the washing/dryer were there, that would have

RH> I suspect you would rather have the washer & dryer. (G) When we were

CS> Definately. The 'big room' is a dining room and living room combined
CS> by design but for us it's a living room and 'whatever' space. Xmas
 CS> tree just now.

Typical family housing. I think we had that sort of set up in all of
our housing except this one. We've actually got separate dining and
living rooms.

CS> Our dining table folds down and is a mere 1ft wide at top once the
CS> leaves are down. Made into a sort of credenza just now.

Nice for small spaces. We've got the full table & six chairs that we
bought when we came back from Germany in 92. Set was made in
Yugoslavia, sort of an oaky wood color.

RH> years; it came out with no problems and worked for another 11 years
RH> before giving up the ghost (blew the tub seal) in HI.

CS> I'll probably have to get new ones when I get back. By now, the
CS> renters had to replace. I rented with all appliances but told them no
CS> replacement and no raised rent either for the appliances being there.
CS> We were both happy withthe deal.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sounds like a good deal. Rachel left
her washer & dryer in AZ when they moved to Las Vegas & now misses it.
But, it's a relatively short time in Vegas and whoever rents the house
in AZ will be able to use the washer/dryer there.

RH> We have 3 large drawers in the kitchen and 5 half size. I had fun
RH> trying to figure out what to stow where but did--now the fun comes in
RH> "OK, what did I put in this" or "where did I put that?". Or, Steve wi
RH> hunt thru half the drawers looking for something, then give up and ask
RH> where it is "hiding". It's usually in the drawer he's got open. (G)

CS> Sounds very familiar! Oh, and i have 15 drawers, a closet with
CS> shelves, and 15 cabinets. I'm just too sort to reach much of the
CS> upper ones. I have ones we do not use at all. The hall is lined with

I've got a stepstool to help with the taller cabinets. It would help tho
to not have them quite as tall (they don't go to the ceiling) & there's
a lot of wasted space that I could stow stuff on the top of if they were
shorter.

CS> a huge linen closet, probably 9ft long and to the ceiling. We dont
CS> use most of that either.

Ours is smaller than the powder room but bigger than the one we had in
HI. It's actually fairly full; I shouldtake out some of the not really
needed stuff & find homes for it.

CS> guess not or you wouldnt be trying to adapt. The downside of military
CS> housing, you have little choice at all on such things.

RH> True; these smooth tops are all the rage now. If I could, I'd rather
RH> have a gas stove anyway but.............

CS> I dont mind gas or electric. I hate the idea of the smooth tops
 CS> though.

Can you tell I'm not jumping up & down with joy? (G)

CS> I use my teapot on the stove 3-4 times a day to boil water for some
CS> reason or other. Thats probably more than most. I have a glorious
CS> old-fashioned sort of metal which whistles and can hold I think, a
 CS> gallon when full.

I always keep a stove top one too. Bought a new one out here--stainless
steel, whistler but I think just under a gallon, maybe not; I've got to
check.

CS> but I have other methods for that too. Pasta hits us once a month

RH> That's because you didn't marry an Italian (actually, half but on mom'
RH> side). I do have a mesh strainer that gets pressed into service from
RH> time to time; I know I'll need it when I make the turkey stock from th

CS> I have a net cloth I've gotten fond of for that. I clamp it to the
CS> sides of the stock pot then upend over another stock pot. Let the
CS> dregs cool for picking over to add to the 'other stock pot'.

I usually strain. put the solids on a plate & let them cool a bit, then
pick & add back to the stock.

CS> Ok! Me, it's a bit of fish. Gonna make fishballs with miso.

RH> Sounds good. The commissary fish selection here isn't as good as the
RH> one in HI & we've not found any local fish markets yet.

CS> Thats one that sadly you will have to accept. There will be a fish
CS> market someplace but not sure how close to the shore you are.

We're within a few miles of the Intracoastal Waterway, a few more to the
Atlantic Ocean.
