Yeah but it's so good raw!  We almost never cook any tuna types unless they've
been in the freezer more than a month.  Then, it cooks fine but is a mushy
sashimi (tastes ok though).  As you might guess, the chances of any lasting
over a month in our home is pretty dim (happy grin).

Anyways, just got back from the commisary.  Got 2 shocks there.

The first one was a 47$ rib roast.  5 lbs.  9$ and change a lb!  It did look
like a good cut but good lord!

The other one made me laugh.  Pre-baked potatoes in the frozen food section.
These were not fancy with fillings and such (which at least makes a little
sense) but just plain baked potatoes, whole, in a 10 lb bag. Frozen.  Sitting
there.  Charlotte and I started laughing.

Then, we looked at the price.  Humm.  I dont feel all tht wierd now.  I've
mentioned we dont get Idahos here right?  These were Idahoes.  Good looking
ones.  Only 92cents a lb which is less than the few times they have them fresh
(rare, not there right now for example).  If you want a real (normal) 'baked
potato' with Xmas dinner, that is the only option.  I could see me defrosting
one and re-baking it in the oven.

Like there's some stuff you'd happily get in Yellowknife at a higher price, and
at least try it.  Sure it's a marketing ploy for here to get around the cost
of fresh ones but it might be a workable one for here too.  Still, I'd feel
awful wierd walking out with an almost 10$ bag of pre-baked frozen spuds...

Xmas dinner now mostly settled.  I got a nice looking rack of pork ribs and Don
will make them up.  They are defrosting in the fridge right now and will be
marinaded sometime late tomorrow.  Also, scored some nice fresh brussell
sprouts (havent been in the store in ages).  I didnt bother to check the price
on them, just was happy to find them.  Got about 2 lbs.  Got milk, eggs,
kangkoon (asian spinach), carrots, potatoes (a white sorta waxy type that work
well enough 'baked in a crockpot' to make mashed potatoes), butter (down in
price again to 1.25$ lb and margarine costs almost the same for the cheapest
brands with some being more expensive than 1.25$), honeydew melon, bok choy,
yellow onion at only 89cents a lb (good for here), flour, 'gogurt' (a kids
yogurt with a cool tube you eat it from), ice cream, and a pie.  (I'm not very
good at making pies so store bought is how we do the rare Xmas treat).

Anyways, fridge is stuffed now.

Don took Charlotte to Tonoo this morning thinking we'd get a good Xmas whole
fish, but with the holidays, they are pretty much closing up shop and the only
thing he saw he wanted was the squid.  He got several good ones and thats our
meal today.  He's breading them now with a seasoned flour and eggwash.  This
time, we want'em deepfried <g>.  Charlotte and I have been bugging him to make
us a batch.
