Ärende: bears & pigs and food, oh my
====================================
Hi Janis,

javalinas

 JK> get > scratched/bitten by one) a wicked infection. A friend had a dog
JK> > attacked by one and the dog had quite an infection--but did recover.

 JK> Nasty guys.. :(

I think I'd want to kep my distance from it--and preferrably watch it
from inside the house.

 JK> > Brain freeze?

JK> Yep, but that's nothing (grin).. one day we came home from the store
JK> and I said to Ron, 'the lizards look really good'... eh.. it was the
JK> bananas. but for that minute or two they were called 'lizards' :) :)

Makes life interesting. (G)

JK> Charlie and > Dog. First 3 found homes, mom cat died on operating

 JK> Dog--and the name.

 JK> Neat..

Sometimes you've got to be a bit off the wall with names for critters.
(G)

>> We had deer, but mostly rabbits :) Don't remember any bears where I

JK> > We were just barely within the village limits but out of town,
JK> proper. > We also had (and my parents still have) rabbits, porcupines,
JK> skunks, the > occaisional wood chucks and bears.

JK> Oh we had skunks :) and wood chucks.. I still remember how bad it was
JK> when our irish setter would come home after being hit by skunk :( :(
JK> Our place was about 3 1/2 acres of land on one of the main streets in
JK> Warwick, so we saw a bit of wildlife.

Skunks or porcupines--both can be nasty to deal with. Last year the
night before Easter my dad had to take a dog to the vet around 10:30 as
it had a nose full of quills.

 JK> > crock pots

JK> Things come and go with this.. one day, everything is fine.. the next
JK> day may or may not be.. but at least it mostly 'goes' away with me.

That's good. But the times it is there and you want or need to get
something done, I know can be a real pain.

>> > I've also got a small (about 1.5 quart) crock pot, thanks to Carol.

>> I use my dutch ovens for that stuff.. the cast-iron dutch oven is the
>> best :) Love to cook things slowly in that.

JK> > The size of this roast made it nice for the baby crock pot. Didn't
JK> use > that much electricity as opposed to stove top either.

JK> Ah.. we have gas.. propane actually. I wish we had electric
JK> sometimes..that is what my mom preferred as well. I remember
JK> complaining that with electric burners you couldn't control the heat
JK> as well (or so it seemed).. but it didn't stop me from experimenting
JK> with cooking when I was living at home :)

I grew up with electric. First time using gas was in the college dorm
kitchen but I've used it quite a bit since. I'd rather have gas for the
heat control sensitivitiy but Steve says electric is cleaner burning and
thus beter for my health. Some places the army housing has had gas,
others, electric and I never know until I move in which I'll have.

>> get the ravioli machine I ordered from Villaware, and darn it, it
>> looks exactly like the Atlas Raviolissimo attachment I have.. in other
>> words, still going to make smaller soup type raviolis.. what a beat..
>> :( They are nice for soup, etc., but aggravating when what you want
>> is a normal sized ravioli :) :)

JK> > RATS! Are you going to send it back as "not what I wanted" return?

JK> Nah, I'll probably sell it on ebay or something.. :)

As long as it's not sitting around, collecting dust and occupying space.
