Unless the recipe intends for oil as a flavor dispersal medium,
there is no reason to use nearly as much of any kind of oil as
the recipe called for. I'd be inclined to omit it altogether.

This was a perfectly normal slightly underripe Bartlett. If
I can't eat a Bartlett pear, for crying out loud, what can I eat?

Maketh some sense, as only the brave deserve the fair (read: the
more pushy you are, the better stuff you get).

But the dosages of medicine have to be titrated as well. So instead of
having available strengths of, say 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, have strengths of
1/2 + 1 unit grapefruit, 1 + 2 units, 2 + 4 units, 4 + 8 units, and
8 + 16 units, and adjusting the dosages in the normal way? Of course
I know the answer - grapefruit is way cheaper than most drugs.

Artichoke dip
cat: starter
yield: 2 1/2 c

14 oz cn artichokes in brine, drained
1/2 c freshly grated Parmesan
1/2 c homemade mayo
1 ds cayenne

Oven at 375F. Chop drained artichokes fine and place
in ovenproof dish. Mix remaining ingredients and
blend well with artichokes. Bake until the edges are
brown and the mixture is bubbly. Serve with thin
slices of baguette or sturdy crackers.
