There are several varieties of durian, with different flavours and
intensity of flavour.

Interesting.  I had not expected you to be a durian lover;
congratulations on being a member of that elite group.  It is not
something which can be learned, but is inherent in your taste buds.
Aunt Ah would fully approve of you for testing yourself that way.

For me, that is the icing on the cake; it extends the time of
enjoyment. Not sure if I should ask, but what did Butch think of your
"durian breath"?  Did she come near, or run and hide?

Licking fingers extends the enjoyment. I also like it with vanilla
ice-cream, as the flavours match nicely. You need a spoon then.
Yesterday I shared 3/5 of a large, 3 kg Thai Mornthong with Kevin, and
have some to share with another durian eater friend, and I promised
some to my son's girlfriend.

Did you eat the seeds?  They can be boiled or fried, and taste rather
like chestnuts.

      Title: Green Bean and Durian Soup
 Categories: Malaysian, Asian, Durian
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
      1 kg Dried green mung beans
      2 l  Water
      1    Pandanus leaf, knotted
    350 g  Palm sugar (gula melaka)
     10    Seeds from 1 sm durian *
      1    Coconut, for milk
 
  Method: Boiling 1. Wash the mung beans under running water in a
  strainer. Heat two litres of water in a deep pot over medium heat,
  and when it boils, add mung beans and pandan leaf. Cover and simmer
  over low heat, stirring occasionally, until beans are cooked through
  and tender (they will break apart when fully cooked).
  
  2. Add palm sugar and simmer until it has melted, then add durian and
  coconut milk and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Turn off heat and
  allow soup to sit for at least 30 minutes for flavours to blend and
  mellow. Reheat to serve, adding a little water if soup is too thick.
  Serve hot.
  
  Preparation 20 mins Cooking + Standing time 1 hr 15 mins Recipe

  rich treat in the Nonya tradition. Made with mung beans and fragrant
  durian, it's a dessert that has an acquired taste.
