 Hi Jim

JW> Boy, when you jump back in, you really get into it. So many posts to
 JW> respond to!

That's good, give you something to do during the winter months. I'd
just go ice fishing, but I imagine it would take a back hoe to get
trough the ice up there now.

 > instead of the salt. Some folks go nuts over sugar, for me it has
 > always been salt.

JW> You probably know this already but both "Mrs. Dash" seasoning
JW> blends and good old lemon juice can replace salt nicely.

Yes, and I'm learning to get along fine without it.

 > For as long as I can remember breakfast has always been the major
 > meal of the day for me.

JW> That is traditional proper nutritional advise; I'm just not a
JW> breakfast eater though, except for big late brunches on Sunday.

Well until recently I was up at the crack of noon and ate like it was
all I would ever get. Now up early and doing something around 8. The
grapefruit works perfectly with that pattern.

 > The grapefruit does taste good.. Texas Sweets they are called.

JW> Are they one of those pink or red fleshed ones? Sweeter than the old
 JW> fashioned yellow ones.

Yes, red and very larger. I split one with Dorothy and we are both
 satisfied.

JW> Not to mention the guys drinking coffee, shaving and texting
JW> simultaneously. And immortal teenagers pushing the limits of both
 JW> themselves and their machines.

They do that in the morning. It's all the women with nothing to do
during the day that scare me big time. I watched one run into someone
and complain she had to end her cell phone conversation as she was
getting out of her Lincoln super sized big truck thing to blame it on
 the guy she ran into.

Heck I got knocked off my bike just crossing the street once years back
before cell phones. Rolled off the windshield and dropped my ice cream
cone. Sad the things that can happen if you ride in the street.

JW> There's 5 different topics there that could raise a major rant from
JW> me but I've already done that several times here already, so i'll
 JW> just bite my tongue.

 Bwahahahaha

 > Hey Jim, you should warn Dave that gasoline is running $1.05 a
 > liter or about 4 bucks a US gallon, over here in Windsor. Don't
 > know about Yellowknife. He might want to fly.

JW> We are at $1.17 retail. I have a company fleet card and get mine at a
 JW> card lock at $1.07.

Yup, and you don't even have to import the oil.

JW> Subj: RE: Hot and humid!

 > My tomatoes are great.

JW> Michigan and Ontario have summers hot enough and long enough to
 JW> grow good varieties.

 > Southern tomatoes leave me pretty much with a blah taste.

JW> I imagine that good old fashioned heirloom varieties, eaten locally
JW> and fresh are amazingly good.

My kid lived in Louisiana for a while and his were blah. My cousin
who lives near my Florida place grows bad tasting tomatoes. I don't
know what it is about northern tomatoes, but taste wise they can't be
 touched.

 > Early girls should work for you Jim.

JW> They do. We start with bedding plants purchased in the first week of
JW> June. They come from a green house in northern Alberta run by
JW> Seventh Day Adventist people who bring in tractor trailers full of
JW> tomatoes, herbs and other hot weather plants already well started.

If you get enough of them in they keep a long time.

JW> Not corn though; there isn't enough heat here for that here.

I wouldn't grow corn unless I had forty acres to plant it in. Lotta
space for a small harvest. Besides I can get great corn at 2 bucks a
dozen in season, the same time mine would be ready.

But on corn, Dorothy has this basket on the table with winter squash and
such stuff in it. There are 4 or 5 tiny ears of decorative corn in it.
While she was gone to Californica couple weeks ago, the grandson and I
were having a snack when I mentioned we should eat some of that corn off
the husk. He says no way grampa, you can't eat that, it's all dried up.
Grampa blew his mind when he peeled one of the ears and put the kernels
in a pot with some oil and popped them. He laughed like crazy as we ate
that dried up corn. I told him not to tell Dorothy when she got home.
She walked in the door and the first words out of his mouth were, "do
you know what grampa ate." Little squeeler..

 Bob
