I suppose if some cruel punishments are used frequently enough, they
can be considered "usual", and therefore be allowed.  The stocks,
ducking chair, waterboarding, burning at the stake (or steak) and the
like come to mind.

Kevin has a strange form of generosity which motivates him to take in
some of these social outcasts who are worse off than himself, and to
attempt to give them some sort of self-pride.  At least Juha doesn't
beat him up, like some of the others did.  Instead, he is apparently
successfully growing vegetables in the well-fertilised back garden.
Kevin has even recently received $100 of remittance money from Juha's
mother, towards expenses incurred.

Unlike the above teeming millions, there are so few of us that we can
live comfortably with our level of pollution - so far.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Dirty Rice
 Categories: Newsgroups, May.rec
      Yield: 4 Servings
 
      2 tb Chicken fat
           ;or oil
    1/2 lb Chicken gizzards
           ;ground up
    1/4 lb Pork ground
      2    Bay leaves
      2 tb Cajun magic
      1 ts Cajun magic
      1 ts Dry mustard
      1 ts Ground cumin
      1 c  Chopped onion
    1/2 c  Chopped celery
    1/2 c  Green peppers
           ;chopped
      2 ts Butter
           ;garlic
      2 c  Meat stock
    3/4 c  Rice, converted
    1/3 c  Chicken livers
           ;ground, Let butcher
           ;grind the meat
 
  Place chicken fat or oil, gizzards, pork and bay leaves in large heavy
  skillet over high heat and stir well. cook until meat is thoroughly
  browned 7 to 10 mins. stirring occasionally. Stir in poultry magic,
  mustard and onion,pepper, garlic: stir thoroughly. Scraping pan
  bottom well . Add butter. reduce heat to med. cook 4 to 5 min,
  stirring and scraping . add rice and cook , rice should crackle and
  pop and look similar to puffed rice .  add stock and stir until any
  mixture sticking to pan bottom of pan comes off.  cook about 4 mins.
  Add chicken livers. cover pan and turn heat to very low , cook 10
  mins. Remove bay leaves And serve
