Well, we thumped them pretty well the first two out of three
in the Sox' last trip to the House That Ruth Built.

Didn't see him around much this week. Did Hank Steinbrenner
decide one day that he would go spend some more of his
daddy's dough?

Yes, that was the gist: that the pitcher's role is to impart
the spin and velocity, and when that's done, he becomes just
another bad fielder. It's said that there's a visual distraction
factor as well (some pitchers have been known for their weird
delivery and follow through), but if that's that important,
a few more bucks could buy a hologram-making machine.

We have largely been replaced by machines, though not
by these mechanical devices, which are more expensive
to maintain than humans.

Bulla Bread

1 packet [about 2tsp] dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
1 tsp sugar

Let the yeast do its thing.  While that's happening, get these things
together:

1 1/2 C lukewarm milk
1/2 C sugar
1/4 C melted butter
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 tsp ground cardamom seed
4 1/2 to 5 cups flour

Mix the sugar, butter, salt and egg in lukewarm milk.  Add yeast mixture and
stir, working in the flour until dough is dry enough to knead.  Knead until
dough is smooth (about 10 minutes).

Put in a large greased bowl and let rise 2 hours or until double.  Punch down
and knead again.  Divide in 2; put into loaf pans and let stand for 1 1/2
hour
or until doubled.  Bake at 350F for 40 minutes.
