That makes sense: getting exercise for that immune system
and making it strong and healthy. On the other hand, growing
up I had lots of ragweed and similar things near my house,
and that didn't help me much.

That seems to be the case. I'd not go so far as Dirty Dave
and drink dehumidifier condensate, but some exposure to
good healthy dirt isn't necessarily a bad thing.

They're not awful at all. They may be tasteless and cooked out,
but if you're looking for a fiber source, they should be fine;
and even some vitamins may remain (especially in the case of
carrots, which retain those pigments). To give the writers their
due, though, think of how many additional coal tars would have to
be killed for ink if "discard" were replaced every time with
"discard or save for another use."

I can't speak for either. It's true that fresh foods are
less benefited by MSG; also there are a number of ingredients
that are naturally high in glutamates (mushrooms, as we were
discussing), so their presence obviates the need for adding
the stuff. Tastebuds, only you can be the judge, only I don't
see how unless you did the supertaster test.

Pomegranate Power Punch
cat: raw, beverage
yield: 8

8 md pomegranates (3/4 lb each)
2 c water
3/4 agave nectar or healing honey
1 bn fresh mint, trimmed and rinsed
1 c ice cubes
1/4 c lemon juice

Halve pomegranates and extract juice from seeds with
a citrus juicer or reamer. Strain juice through a
fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl, discarding pulp.
You should have about 4 c. Combine the juice with the
water and agave or honey and blend until smooth. Add
the mint to the mixture and chill 1-2 hr. When serving,
strain the mint out, mix with lemon juice, and pour
over ice.
