You remind me of one of the visits to our area by Henry Kasten.  Henry
is blind, but does quite well for himself.  The last time he was here
(perhaps ten years ago?) he had a new dog.  We went to a restaurant down
in or near the District of Columbia.  It was during the winter and there
was snow on the ground, but it had been shoveled out of the way into
piles here and there.  Henry's dog walked him smack into one of those
piles!  A couple years later I was in Texas on business and stopped into
see him and his wife.  They had returned the dog -- he was just not up
to the job.  Made a good pet for someone else, but got too uptight as a
working dog.

I also recall another device that some of my workmates used -- not sure
if it was from Kurzweil or not.  They called it a bumblebee.  It was a
small handheld device that you drug over text.  They held it in their
hand, with one finger pressed on a sensor array.  As you passed over the
letters, it would activate selected of the minature sensors in a pattern
that they had learned to read.  As it was doing so, you heard a faint
buzzing sound, hence the nickname.

      Title: 5 Cup Fruit Salad
 Categories: Salads, Fruit, Wanny
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
      1 cn Mandarin Oranges
      1 cn Crushed or chunk pineapple
      1 cn Flaked Coconut
      1 c  Miniature marshmallows
    1/2 pt Sour cream
 
  Drain fruit.  Mix all ingredients together and chill thoroughly.  If
  desired, garnish salad with maraschino cherries and chopped nuts.
