Ärende: RE: simply shrimply
===========================
Hiya Ruth!

->
-> -> hn> Shrimps is goood! When we lived in South Carolina back in
->
-> -> I could eat them year round--and have enjoyed them at various times
of
-> -> the year, mostly when living in the south.
->
-> hn> I love em too! A bunch of years ago one of my
->  hn> co workers had a father
-> hn> who held a commercial Hood Canal Shrimpers
->  hn> license....they are a deep
-> hn> water species called spot shrimp
->  hn> http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/shelfish/shrimpreg/shrimpspot.htm
-> hn> and they are delicious! We used to buy them
-> hn> fresh caught and frozen for $10/pound and they
-> hn> were worth every penny! I'd buy 20 pounds
-> hn> a year and ration them out over the course
-> hn> of the year. They taste a bit like lobster.
->
-> You've got me drooling but I suspect the price has gone up a bit and
-> they're not $10/pound any more. We've really enjoyed the local shrimp;
-> getting spoiled so when we leave this area and have to buy shrimp from
-> who knows where, we probably won't.
->
LOL not many local shrimpers in AZ!

-> -> hn> days aspired to being a bike racer when I grew up.
-> ->  hn> I'd often get 40 or 50 miles a day on the weekends
-> -> hn> or during the summers. Met a lot of good people
->
-> -> Sounds like it was a fun time. Your own Tour de France without worry
of
-> -> time trials and suchlike.
->
-> hn> Most of the times I stayed within 50 miles of Chateauroux
-> hn> so I could make the trip out and back in a single day. Otherwise
->
-> Still you got to see quite a bit of the area. More of France than I've
-> ever seen. (G)
->
->
And some of Spain as well!

-> hn> I'd have to carry camping gear or enough money to stay
-> hn> somewhere overnight. on occaision I could catch a ride
->
-> If the weather was decent; you could sleep out under the stars.
->
->
True, but you have to find a place, AND you have to carry
all your supplies...makes for a difficult ride on a bike not
built to be anything but a racer. I used to carry my books
in a backpack (waaaay ahead of my time there!) when I rode
to school and back.

-> hn> with someone I knew (parents of friends who rode also) and
-> hn> they'd drop us off somewhere and we'd ride back home from
-> hn> there. Still it's a good way to see a lot of country at a
->  hn> more enjoyable pace!
->
-> Very much so, and if you had friends that liked doing the same thing, it
-> would make a nice outing.
->
I had about 6 friends who were bike nuts like I was
and we even had a few french kids who hung around
and rode with us fairly regularly as well.

-> -> hn> only hung out at the snack bar on base.
-> -> hn> Not that I didn't put in my hours there as well! (grin)
->
-> -> Why am I not surprised? (G)
->
-> hn> Closest thing to a malt shop to be found there!
-> hn> Used to get the best vanilla cokes and milkshakes!
->
-> Now the bases/posts don't have snack bars as such. There are a number
-> of fast food chain places available in a food court in the PX/BX area
-> but nothing of great quality for the most part. Sometimes I've a hard
-> time deciding what's the least offensive of the offerings; other times,
-> the selection will have just what I was craving. Same selection too. (G)
->
Not all changes are good changes!

-> -> hn> out on the "economy" it's often smarter to
-> -> hn> blend in than stand out if you know what
-> ->  hn> I mean!
->
-> -> I know exactly what you mean; I did it somewhat
-> -> in Germany when we were there.
->
->  hn> Thought you'd understand (grin)
->
-> Part of the understanding tht goes with being part of the military. It
-> helped that my coloring, features, etc were typical German; I'd have
-> stood out like a sore thumb in Japan.
->
When we first got to France I'd say
I pretty much stood out like a sore thumb!

-> -> hn> Lots of sources for glycemic index info now!
->
-> -> The book we got was our first good source--got it when we were in HI.
->
-> hn> I have several charts saved as .pdf files and there's lots of
-> hn> resources on the web these days!
->
-> Yes, the web seems to have most anything you want to find these days,
-> even parts for an older sewing machine. (G)
->
Yeh...but I don't sew! (grin)
chat with you soon
