Two things gotten from a desperate attempt at feeding oneself
at Five Guys someplace in Virginia:

Mr. Pibb - Coca-Cola's take on Dr. Pepper. Not surprisingly, it
tastes like Coke mixed with Dr. Pepper. Less sweet than Dr.
Pepper (good) but all the caffeine (bad).

Minute Maid lemonade - this stuff tastes dirty to me, except
when it's very, very dilute, in which case it tastes sort of
tainted insofar as it had any taste at all, almost as if there
were some kind of algae fouling the pipes. But it's consistent
- fountain Minute Maid tastes crummy, and why I keep trying
it, never a whole glass, though, whenever it's available, is
a mystery.

The burger itself was fine, for those who like the overdone
style of burger.

One thing tasted when horridly parched in San Francisco:

Sunrise Orange Elixir - orange, ginger, and green tea (Westin
Renewal Lounge) - aroma of slightly fermented citrus, kind of
thin with a weak vaguely tropical floral taste. Supposedly
offering "a gentle pick me up before your flight" - had no
such effect on me. A second try a week or two later yielded
nice fresh-squeezed orange juice with very little additional
flavoring. This was much preferable.

Two things gotten from a desperate attempt at feeding oneself
at the Chicago airport:

Werther's Original caramel chocolate - quite nice, though
slightly too sweet. Good smooth 42% dark swirled with some
caramel substance

Love and Quiches cookies 'n cream brownie - an odd concept
- a brownie with a half an Oreoid cookie mushed into it.
Actually not bad tasting, the brownie actually tasting like
brownie, the cookie tasting like brownie as well.

Six things tasted while parched at the Coddington Brewery
just off the naval base in Middletown/Newport RI

Golden ale - rather like Rolling Rock. A nothing beer,
something Joe Six-pack could pour down with no pain.
Low hops, touch of sweetness, quenching. It was only
60F out, though, so I didn't need this.

Blueberry lager - or this, an extremely light beer, rather
like Bud or Miller but with no off flavors except for the
deliberately introduced one. A handful of real blueberries
as garnish. Also would have been appropriate for if it had
been 20-30 degrees more out.

IPA - moderate hopping, medium body. Very middle of the
road and unlike the chest-beating IPAs, you know, 74 IBUs,
a hundred IBUs, heck, I can make an ale that is 99% humulin,
a million bitterness units. This is an easy drinking IPA,
not too floral, not too bitter. I liked it fairly well.

Pumpkin ale - medium red-brown, aroma of nutmeg and clove.
Very nutmeggy on the palate, almost obscuring all other
flavors, including the malt and hops. Out of balance. Of
course, I've always distrusted nutmeggy things since my
early teens, when I took an ounce or so of the stuff to
see if the rumors about its being a hallucinogen were true.
Didn't work for me - just made me dislike nutmeg. I think a
touch of cinnamon might have helped this out a bit.

Oktoberfest - good red-dark gold color, malty aroma, good
clean taste. Surprisingly not unlike a German beer, though
a little more cereally. Has the brewmaster actually tasted
the original, I thought to myself.

Stout - an astonishing 3.5% alcohol. Nice and smooth, interesting
two-tone head, so it looked like soup scum, unfortunately. Pleasant
roasted coffee aroma, smooth taste, a bit cereally. Lower alcohol
and slightly higher hops than the classic version.

With these brews we ordered burgers "rare rare," which came
out somewhat seared outside and raw raw inside. Perfect. They
came on what was described as a "kaiser roll," but were really
soft squishy things that I call "Stop and Shop rolls." Fresh
lettuce, somewhat tasty tomato, quite nice sour dill pickle
spear. Curly fries that tasted like cumin and pepper, not like
cardboard. A minor triumph.
