Urticaria.

On the other hand this seemed to be both delayed and extreme.

In fact, assuming that this "amateur chef" had ever actually eaten
peppers before, it is highly unlikely, as troublesome Burt points
out, that these were the cause at all, but rather that something else
was the culprit, perhaps the dirt under the girlfriend's fingernails.

I guess it may, too, be possible that some chiles have allergens
within them that this character had never encountered before.

      Title: Irish Coffee Muffins
 Categories: Muffins, Breads
   Servings: 12

      2 c  Flour
      1 tb Baking powder
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/2 c  Sugar
      1    Egg, beaten
    1/3 c  Butter, melted
    1/2 c  Heavy cream, unwhipped
    1/4 c  Irish whiskey
    1/4 c  Coffee liqueur

  Preheat oven to 400 F.

  Sift the first 4 ingredients together.

  Stir in remaining ingredients, until moistened.

  Fill paper-lined muffin tins full, and bake approximately 20 minutes.

  Makes 12 muffins.
