Sort of.

I have spent a fairly unproductive day off work scrooging about with OLR
programmes ... to little positive result. Except my frayed nerves. I have
discovered that none of the candidates would boot up after I edited the
"progname.rc" file - which I was required to do.

This one, at least, will run with the defaults - although it is pretty clunky
after the joys of CMPQwk. It's still better than doing it on-line.

So, Jabber. BlueMail and RoboMail all seem destined for the bin - unless I can
get one of them working. Well, RoboMail is going to the bin in any event. But,
Jabber and BlueMail (which is an outgrowth of this OLR) seemed to have a lot of
promise and polish ... if I could get the scutters to do more than frustrate an
old man.  Bv)=

And there is hope for my CMPQwk - as soon as I figure out how to make this XP
Media Centre Edition drop its pretentions of 64-bit processing and drop back to
an honest 32 bit configuration I should be back in business. Keeping my wires
... errrrmmmm ... fingers crossed.

Judged all three categories at the Heartland Regional Chilli Cook-off last
Sunday. Phew. I had to ask to be put on the finals table for the red chilli. I
just wasn't going to have enough capacity to sample 20 more chilli bowls.

There were 17 salsa entries - of which I picked the winner - Charlie Ward of
Mountain Home, Idaho. It was to be the only time I was in agreement with the
rest of the judges all afternoon. 

20 chile verde cups - of which 18 were excellent and the other two were merely
pretty good. Tough competition. My friend Kelly Wessing took the honours
beating out her husband and the rest of the field. My first place pick finished
a close 4th place. Everyone got some points which is an indication of an even
field. 

In the red category my first place pick - of the two decent chillies on the
table was that of Georgia Weller the 1996 World Champion. Mine were the only
points she got. I didn't have enough moxie to taste any of the chillies from
the preliminary tables ... but, with only two really good cups on the finals
table I rather wondered what they had to choose from over there.

Went out to run some errands at 1 pee em and rode with the windows down in 65oF
temperatures. Right now - 8 hours later it is 12oF headed for a low of 8.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Jalapeño Cornbread
 Categories: Breads, Classic, Chilies, Pork
      Yield: 9 Pieces
 
      1 c  Yellow cornmeal
      1 c  All-purpose flour
    1/2 c  Milk
      4 ts Baking powder
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Garlic powder
    1/2 c  Grated cheddar cheese
    1/2 c  Canned jalapeños; drained,
           - chopped (1/2 cup)
      2 oz Jar chopped pimientos
      1 md Onion; chopped
      1 c  Water
    1/3 c  Vegetable oil
      2    Eggs
      4 sl Crisp bacon; crumbled
      1 tb Bacon drippings
 
  Preheat oven to 375°F.
  
  Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Stir in cheese,
  jalapeños, pimientos, onion and crumbled bacon.
  
  In another bowl, beat together the water, oil and eggs.
  Stir in dry ingredients until just moistened. Melt bacon
  drippings in an 8" or 9" skillet or pan. Pour batter into
  hot pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
