because my objection to milk isn't the taste. Of course, I

As Clean Dave tells me, this has something to do with the
vasodilator effect; I guess it gets the stuff where it needs
to go quicker. Scant consolation for me, though.

I think it's largely to regulate the evaporation of moisture,
at least with the breads. Why it's a filler in medicine capsules
really foxes me: they could use a less toxic substance, such
as strychnine.

For reasons I won't go into but some here know I was always the
fixer and arbiter in my household when I was a kid, and I went
the exact opposite direction, never wanting to grow up and never
wanting to go to school ...

No problem with a fly in the ointment, if you fish it out
and enjoy the ointment! And as far as glasses being half
full, put them in front of me and they'll soon be not very
full at all.

MMMMM-----Meal-Master - formatted by MMCONV  2.10

     Title: Katjaug Sauce
Categories: Indonesian, sauces, spices
  Servings: 2 cups

           Clarified butter
      1 md onion, finely sliced
      2    cloves garlic, finely
           chopped
      1 ts Kentjoer (Indonesian ground
           spices)
    1/2 ts shrimp sauce
      1 ts brown sugar
           Freshly ground salt and
           Sambal Oelek to taste
    1/2 c  peanut butter
    1/2 c  coconut milk
    1/2 c  water

Pour clarified butter into heated saucepan and add onion. Add garlic and
fry. To this, add ground spices, shrimp sauce and brown sugar. Season
with salt and chili pickle. Increase heat and add peanut butter. Stir
briskly. Reduce heat to low and add coconut milk and 1/2 cup water. Stir
thoroughly and remove from heat. Add pan juices collected from skewers
to sauce and serve in a sauce boat alongside meat.
