I have looked at the menu at that hotel, and didn't like its prices.

Continuance of the Indian Pacific train trip...

Sometime late the first night the train stopped at the famous gold
mining town of Kalgoorlie, where we were taken to see the largest open
cut mine in the Southern Hemisphere.  Mining was proceeding, but the
200 tonne trucks were so distant that not much could be seen apart from
their lights.

Breakfast was scrambled eggs, bacon, spinach and cheese pasta - all a
bit too much for me, although I did my best.  The train stopped briefly
at the settlement at Forrest, to drop off Christmas presents to the 2
(two) residents, whom manned the weather station and looked after the
large, emergency airstrip, capable of handling the largest passenger
jets used in Australia.  Forrest is 1138 km from Perth, on the longest
straight stretch of railway line in the world - almost 500 km without
the slightest bend or slope; just treeless flat plain with saltbush and
bluebush - and sand and stones. Very few kangaroos or other large life.

Lunch featured an "Australian barbecue grill" of kangaroo fillet, lamb
loin chop and tuna steak, all cooked to perfection, with a rich
quandong sauce over the red meats.  A little later we stopped at the
township of Cook (population 6), just over the border into South
Australia.  It was apparent that by then the train was back in SA, as
the local electricity poles were the steel and concrete "Stobie poles",
native to my home state.

Dinner was a lentil soup, grilled chicken and a gelato ice in a
chocolate cup.  Once again, over-ate.

Next morning breakfast was served in the cabin at 0630, and the train
arrived in Adelaide at 0720, where I was collected by my son.

      Title: LEMON GELATO - GELATO AL LIMONE
 Categories: Desserts, Ices, Italian, Euro-c
      Yield: 2 servings
 
    1/2 c  Lemon juice=20
    1/2 c  Sugar- castor
    1/2 c  Wine- sweet white; OR
    1/2 c  ; dry white wine=20
    1/2 c  Water=20
      1    Egg whites
 
  1. Place sugar, water and wine in small pan, stir over low heat until
  sugar= is dissolved, bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer uncovered 10
  minutes. All= ow to cool.
  
  2. Stir strained lemon juice into cooled mixture, mix well. Pour
  mixture into shallow tin, freeze approximately 1 hour or until
  mixture= is just firm.
  
  3. Remove from freezer: turn mixture into bowl, beat until smooth with
  fork= .. Fold in firmly beaten egg white, return to tin, freeze until
  firm.
  
  Serves 2, or 4 as a topping for fresh fruit
