Hi Janis,

JK> Heh.. my grandmother made pizza like that :) Really.. she always
JK> prebaked the crust and didn't put the topping on until later, like you
JK> did above. She said it was better since the cheese didn't brown.

I like the cheese a bit brown. I would have given it more time for the
second baking but the crust was already getting a bit too brown. I don't
usually pre bake but this time warrented it. As far as I know, neither
of my grandmothers made pizza (One pased away before I was born, the
other one in 74, during my senior year in college.) and my mom always
used the boxed mixes so whatever I do, it's different. (G) OTOH,
Steve's mom is Italian heritage so he grew up with a lot more home made
pizza than I did (as well as boxed; his mom kept it on hand for a quick
snack).

>> I just asked Ron how someone could not like anchovies, and he said, I

JK> "Good > Eats" episonde featuring okra.

JK> hehe.. I think I've had okra once, and didn't like it either <grin>

Depends on how it's fixed makes a big difference in its likeability.

>> Italian and half-sicilian).. but maybe one day I'll contact some of
>> them :) Would be very neat :)

JK> > You're close enough, you can do some family research. Even living in

JK> > where my dad's family came from is now part of Poland. I know my mom
JK> has > a pretty good history of her dad's family from a different part
 JK> of
JK> > Germany; I still keep in contact with one couple there.

JK> My uncle on my mother's side, and one of my aunts on my father's side
JK> have traced our family's histories and it was incredible to read both
JK> accounts! This one is funny.. my grandmother on my father's side was
JK> the granddaughter of an illegitimate child of a Count in Southern
JK> Italy <grin>.. So I have ROYAL BLOOD in me <laugh> or something
JK> <vbg>. It's still very interesting to read how far back one's family
JK> goes though (even withoug the "royal blood" tale <g>.. which none of
JK> us believed until the information was found <g>).

It is interesting what can be found. My great grandfather on my dad's
side (the one who came to the States) was the youngest of something like
10 sons. The older brothers pooled thier money to send him but befoe he
went, in his younger days, he and Otto von Bismarck were fishing
buddies. On my mom's side, I'm somehow related to Herbert Hoover but
don't know just how.

>> Ah .. I love a good risotto :)

JK> > And his was good. I understand he made another one on Sunday but we
JK> had > to take off to get back here for my pre op work and (first)
 JK> surgery.

JK> Sounds like it was a great picnic.. matter of fact, I remember reading
JK> about it when I first started perusing this echo :)

That's what brought Steve back into the echo, tho more of a lurker.
He'd been the one to get it originally, 14 years ago, on the suggestion
of a friend in AZ but when he got too involved with other computer stuff
(and work), he asked me to start reading and writing. One of the first
recipes I printed off was from Michael Loo for pseudo Malinda's hot
sauce; that's one that still gets made regularly here--and a pint of it
went to Iraq when Deborah was deployed. I was kidding with the postal
worker when I sent off that package about a thermo-nuclear device (the
hot sauce) in it; that was shortly after Saddam was captured. She got
varied (funny/interesting) reactions with the guys she shared it with in
her unit.
