DS> Last night Gail and I tried another hamburger place, called
DS> Cheeburger. According to their web page at cheeburger.com , they
DS> don't have any locations in CT yet. They started in Florida, and
DS> spread to a number of states. The menu has the sub-title "Big is
DS> Better", referring to their "Famous Pounder" which is a 20 ounce
DS> burger priced at $10.59 (including picture to post on the wall of
DS> fame). We went down a couple sizes from that to what they called the
 DS> "Serious", a 10 ounce burger.

Sounds like my kind of place. Serious burgers are worth getting serious about.

DS> The burgers can be ordered to be cooked medium to well done -- we of
DS> course asked for medium. Our burgers had just a hint of pink inside.
DS> They are made from fresh black angus beef, probably hand formed.

DS> The decor is 1950's retro.

DS> They have real milkshakes, in a multitude of flavors. Also have egg
DS> cream, although I am not sure just what that is.

An egg cream is a classic New York City beverage consisting of chocolate syrup
(usually Fox's U-bet chocolate syrup in New York), milk, and seltzer (soda
water), probably dating from the late 19th century, and is especially
associated with Brooklyn, home of its inventor, candy shop owner Louis Auster.
It contains neither eggs nor cream. (It should be noted that the Auster
family's claim to have invented the egg cream has been challenged.)

DS> The fries were good, fairly crisp but not crunchy, sprinkled with a
DS> slight seasoning mix. The onion rings were quite good -- very crisp
DS> batter. They would have been better if the onions had been cut a bit
DS> thicker though. They sell a basket with a mix of the two in it. The
DS> half basket was more than Gail and I really wanted.

It's still hard to beat McDuck's fries and HoJo's onion rings.

DS> This might just replace Five Guys as our burger place. Certainly as
DS> good, and much closer to us.

I'll have to look and see if they have plans to some to the Great American
Outback. The Five Guys airport burger I tried was absolutely excellent. Much
better than the usual run of airport concourse fare and at a decent price.

      Title: Mexican Wedding Cookies
 Categories: Desserts, Latino, Nuts
      Yield: 3 Dozen

    1/2 c Butter; room temp
    1/2 c Shortening
      2 c  Confectioners' sugar;
           - divided
  1 1/4 ts Vanilla extract
    1/4 ts Almond extract
      2 c Sifted all-purpose flour
    1/4 ts Salt
      1 c Fine chopped pecans

  Preheat oven to 325°F.

Using an electric mixer, cream together butter, shortening
and 1 cup of the confectioners' sugar in a large bowl. Stir
in the vanilla and almond extracts.

Gradually add the flour and salt. Use the mixer for the
first cup of flour, and then work in the remaining cup of
flour and the finely chopped pecans by hand with a wooden
  spoon. Dough will be stiff.

Form dough into balls (1 level tablespoon each). Place on
an ungreased baking sheet, 1 inch apart. Bake at 325°F on
middle oven rack until light golden brown, 15 to 20 min.

While cookies are still warm, place the remaining cup of
confectioner's sugar in a shallow dish. Roll the cookies in
  sugar to coat completely.

  Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
