One of the great downsides of the Internet is that any idiot
can spew anything about anything. I had a big knockdown-dragout
with the Alaska dame* about this (she tried to teach her students
to do Web research but I thought didn't teach them enough about
critical reading, so this was sort of like putting a machine gun
in the hands of a ten-year-old, if you've been reading the news
lately) and later with the Maryland dame, who used the stuff with
far too much impunity, as though any impunity were not too much.

*not the Republican Alaska dame, the socialist one

Might have been a gag, but it made me gag.

As I pointed out in a post earlier, I actually fed this moderator
candy of the brand that was discovered to be melamine-tainted;
there was no intent to poison him and his family ... I think.
After all, I ate a bunch of the stuff myself (as I am extremely
fond of it, toxin or no). I hope that if there's any left of
what I brought, he didn't throw it out - I'll eat it on my next
visit there.

The video was pernicious and evil. It used the standard
propaganda technique of coupling true statements with untrue
ones; whether the effect was intended to be humorous or misleading
I am not willing to judge.

Why did you recommend the damn thing? It was cheesy and stupid,
an Asperger's baby's humor if humor at all, as well as pernicious.
Luckily I had work to do while I put the thing on to hear what
Dave was objecting to.

Problem is, the rant ran too close to truth to be comfortable.
Proof: look at the loonies' responses on the Tube - both video
and typed.

Cheese and white wine soup - Soupe au Fendant
cat: Swiss, cheesy, soup
servings: 4

2 c chicken stock
1 c cream
1 c white wine (Fendant if you can)
200 g swiss Alpkaese (fromage d'alpage)
White pepper
Rye sourdough or toasted bread

Try to use fromage d'alpage, made up the Alps from flower-grazing
cows. Fendant is a tart dry wine very popular in the Valais.

Cut the cheese rind off; slice and dice.

Mix the cream with the chicken stock in a saucepan
and add the wine.

Bring to a boil, then mix with the cheese cubes in a bowl.
Make sure not to pour the liquid too hot nor to throw the
cheese into the saucepan - they need to melt nice and easy.
Mix with a wooden spoon until melted.

You can serve this with croutons but I used Valaisian rye
sourdough, the most popular bread we have here in the Valais,
sliced thin.

Crack some white pepper, sprinkle, and serve.
