The quick safe way to determine the read time would be to stick
the thing into something of known temperature (not necessarily a
piece of meat - I imagine just a glass of hot water would do) and
see how long the temperature took to register. If it failed to
do so within maybe 10 seconds, especially if it didn't seem to
want to move much at all, one can safely conclude that it was
"the other kind."

Here's something that wouldn't need a thermometer ...

Tropical Bliss Cake
cat: raw, dessert
yield: 1

h - Flour
2 c walnuts
2 c almonds
8 dates
3 T mesquite meal
h - Lemon Cream
1 1/2 c macadamia nuts
- soaked over 8 hours
1/2 c honey
1 lemon, juice of
h - Icing
2 young coconuts, meat of
1/4 c coconut water
1 c pine nuts
1/4 c honey
h - Assembly
sliced bananas
sliced mango
sliced papaya
chopped mango
chopped papaya
shredded coconut

For the flour: Process almonds fine. Add the rest of the
ingredients and process well.

For the cream: Process in blender, add water as needed.

For the icing: Process in blender.

Put a thin layer of flour mixture on the bottom of a
casserole dish and press lightly.

Pour lemon cream on the first flour layer and add
sliced bananas. Top with a second layer of flour.

Add a layer of sliced mangos and papayas. Add next
layer of flour.

Top with icing and add chopped mangos and papayas.
Top off with shredded coconut. Place in refrigerator
for a couple of hours to set up.
