This means, given the makeup of the conference, that it's going to be
mostly an east coast thing. The west coasters will have to figure it
out on their own, maybe have a second picnic - there have been some
out there - I've even attended a few.

Yep, times is tough. And I've been in a dying profession for
close on 40 years. Doesn't really bother me, I've been doing
mostly what I want, without being tied down.

I think that some of us are grateful that you're thinking "inexpensive"
(I don't mind, for sure, though my situation isn't so precarious as
some) - and also that, by the sound of it, you're thinking maybe this
year.

Beer I know. I didn't realize that a Jackass samwich was actually food.
We've had horseshoe sandwiches before at echo picnics ...

Basic pound cake
cat: dessert
yield: 2

3 1/2 c flour
1 ts salt
1/4 ts ground mace
1 1/2 c butter
1 lb powdered sugar
6 eggs
1/3 c milk
2 ts vanilla x

Sift flour with salt and mace.

Beat butter until fluffy; add sugar gradually,
continuing to beat. Add eggs one at a time,
beating after each addition. Beat until very smooth.

Combine milk and vanilla.

Add dry ingredients to butter mixture alternately
with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
Beat well after each addition.

Divide between 2 greased, floured 9x5x3" loaf pans.

Bake 70 min at 325F. Cool in pans for 10 min, then
turn out onto wire rack to cool.
