Partly a self-selecting clientele and partly that civility breeds
civility, I suppose.

Though there are those whom I've liked less in person than on
the boards - not here but on some of the frequent flyer echoes,
for example.

I used to tend to give people a huge benefit of the doubt, but on
the Internet there are so many impostors that I've become a regular
tiger at times (never been wrong, either, so far, but it's kind of
like shooting fish in a barrel).

I guess if I had dairies near me I might think the same thing.
But orchards smell so much nicer than dairies.

You pay for your defects. I've at times been stretched to the
breaking point paying for lactase pills, which come in at a
quarter apiece, with a handful required for a pizza or some
ice cream, effectively doubling the cost of the food. But don't
compare the price of pure juice to that of cran* cocktail,
which is way diluted and then sweetened.

If the single juices are available at whatever cost, can't you
mix your own mixes? Say 3 parts cranberry, 2 parts blueberry
with a shot or two of sugar syrup or Splenda per glass?

How careful do you have to be, i.e., what's your tolerance for
contamination of, say, your pear juice with apples? I don't get
the impression that yours is as crippling as many people's
peanut allergies, where just a whiff may be enough to put the
victim into anaphylaxis. I know my sensitivities have relatively
minor consequences (various fruit -> itchy mouth; milk -> bloating
and the runs and a stuffy nose; caffeine -> temporary insanity)
in the greater scheme of things.

FOCACCIA HERO SANDWICH
cat: sandwich
Yield: 8 servings

1 lb) round focaccia bread*
1/2 c creamy Italian salad dressing
12 lettuce leaves
1/4 lb thinly sliced deli hard salami
10 sl (3/4 oz each)  LAND O LAKES< Deli American Cheese
1/2 lb thinly sliced deli turkey breast
8 sl tomato
2 sl (thin) onion, separated into rings

The flavors of this hero sandwich can be varied by using
different dressings.

Carefully slice bread in half crosswise. Spread dressing
onto cut sides of top and bottom halves of bread.

To assemble, evenly layer bottom half of bread, cut side
up, with 6 lettuce leaves and all remaining ingredients.
Top with remaining lettuce leaves and bread half, cut
side down. Secure with toothpicks. Cut into wedges.

*Substitute 1 lb loaf Italian bread.
