Yes, but Maryanne and Lynn both like the white meat as it comes
off the roasted bird; they get the white meat and I get the dark
meat, and everyone is happy.  Especially because I've figured
out how to make the white meat nice and moist.

Lynn has never had a dry, overcooked homemade turkey, and 
therefore her negative experience with white meat has been
limited.  What I can't understand is why some people insist
that they like white meat better even as they admit that
it's often dry and not very pleasant to eat.  One woman I
know actually told me that she liked dry turkey.  I do not
understand.

To me, it really doesn't matter; well into the 1990's, our kitchen
on Asnuntuck Street was still mid-70's Harvest Gold - Glenwood
range, GM/Frigidaire fridge, washer, and dryer.  The color scheme
only changed as stuff started to wear out beyond our ability  to
repair.  Appliance colors - even more than extra features and
digital doohickeyness - are part of a "planned obsolescence" cycle
to goad people into buying items that they need only because the
tastemakers say they do.  That's why it's often better to remove
and junk perfectly good kitchen appliances when selling a house
if the seller can't afford to replace them with the shiny pretty
new ones.  Buyers prefer holes in the cabinetry to those horrid
ugly 10-year-old fixtures that aren't on the cover of this month's
House Beautiful.
