Ärende: RE: EXPIRATION DATES 81209
==================================
Hey there Glen!

->
-> -> As a consequence of sweet, sticky cakes being popular among Filipinos,
-> -> there are many dentists in the Philippines, some of them quite good,
-> -> and I have seriously considered that latter alternative. I am always
-> -> welcome there, and I have a house in Manila, well stocked with
resident
-> -> and transient relatives. As patriach I have first choice of the master
-> -> bedroom, although now that married children from overseas often
arrange
-> -> to rendezvous with me there, I usually do the Filipino hospitality
-> -> thing and give them my bed, while I bunk in with the younger ones.
->  ->
->  HN> Sounds like a good arrangement!
->
-> It is about time for another reunion there, so the overseas families
-> can bring the latest babies to show off.
->
Any excuse will do!

-> -> had my first dental appointment and impressions taken this morning,
and
-> -> repeat visits will go on until after Christmas.
->  ->
-> HN> Ah well, one must make do with what one
->  HN> has....NO BALUT for you!
->
-> No problems getting balut here, at the Lucky Asian, just down the road.
-> They get uncooked balut in on Thursdays, and are very careful to warn
-> customers about the contents of those duck eggs. Some people confuse
-> them with hard boiled salty duck eggs, peel the shells off, then get
-> upset when a fetal duckling falls out. Fried balut is actually quite
-> good, and I do that from time to time as an alternative to boiling.
-> What I would like to go back to Manila for which I can't get here, is a
-> place which serves tiny, whole, deep-fried crabs.
->
Tiny crabs are almost entirely shell
so you could just deep fry some
shells and it would be about the same!

-> -> HN> If you want North Pacific, come on up
-> -> HN> my way or Bill Swisher's...we can show
->  ->  HN> you some NORTH Pacific!
->  ->
-> -> That is the *Far* North Pacific! Polar bear country. :)
->  ->
-> HN> Arrrr, that's what WE call NORTH laddie! (grin)
->
-> Any further, and you could find yourself in Jim's back yard. (Well,
-> about that latitude, anyway.)
->
YEp, that's north alright!

-> -> HN> Just finished my colonoscopy today,
-> -> HN> now I have my dental visit on monday
-> -> HN> the 8th....I'm getting it from both ends now!!
->
-> That is today, your time. Let us know what happened. Did the dentist
-> manage to get his bit back?
->
As far as I know yes, the root canal
was finished and I have the crown
temporarily glued in place. will go
back in January and get the final
touches done!

-> -> HN> You should get a cheap laptop with
-> -> HN> wifi capability and give us reports
-> -> HN> from all these exotic locales!
->  ->
-> -> Both those families have Broadband connection, and computers
available
-> -> for Interneting and Emailing, but they are too modern to run
Bananacom,
-> -> which I use to dial up my local BBS. I don't like posting stuff to the
-> -> Echo or writing Emails on-line, as sometimes I make mistakes or want
to
-> -> go away for a while to check references or eat or something.
->  ->
-> HN> Ah well, I prefer to do it online now.
-> HN> Fidotel is very reliable and patient!
->
-> My BBS only has one phone line, so I don't like to hog that for too
-> long. Other clients need that line also. My ISP charges by the hour
-> for time connected, so I like to minimise that. Later, I will probably
-> sign up for Broadband, and be more permanently connected.
->
I know that fidotel supports downloads of the
conferences so you could still work offline.
I just pay a flat fee for unlimited internet
connection and working online is fine for me.

->  ->  HN> OOooooo PERTH!!!!!
-> -> A lovely city. As it will be school Christmas holidays, I anticipate
-> -> taking my 9 yo grandson around to the sort of places that his working
-> -> parents haven't had a chance to take him to, like the suburb of South
-> -> Perth, a 20 minute ferry ride. There are other destinations that the
-> -> ferries go to, including the port of Fremantle and Rottnest Island,
-> -> where he could meet the friendly Quokkas.
->  ->
-> HN> Gonna have to look that one up!!
->
-> A small, almost spherical, kangaroo-like marsupial which lives on
-> Rottnest Island, and is fully protected. There are lots of Morton Bay
-> fig trees on the island, and in season they drop figs onto the ground,
-> where they ferment. The quokkas eat the figs and get pie-eyed, and
-> stagger all over the road. There are no private cars there, but only a
-> few service vehicles and lots of bicycles used by tourists and surfers,
-> so most people can avoid the drunken quokkas.
->
Unless they've been eating the fermented
figs themselves!
chat with you soon!
