It IS a sad reflection! When I was there
I cooked several meals that we shared
with the dorm...they all loved the food,
but only a couple were intersted at all in 
how it was made! We stopped in Davis
on our way out to the coast and it was
farmer's market day...and we ended up 
buying a HUGE box of tomatoes for almost
nothing...so I made tomato sauce out of
them when we got to the Labs. It was
great stuff too! And we froze it so Amanda
would have some to use with dishes 
after we were gone....One of the girls
in the dorm was AMAZED that anyone
even knew HOW to make tomato sauce
from scratch! She watched me do it and
later on she made a batch herself, so I 
was extra happy that I was able to share
that little bit of knowledge!
