I did some snooping around and also came up with:

I have been buying Mitchell's Heritage double smoked, thick cut
bacon lately. It is normally $12 a kilo but sometimes on special at
$9 or $10 at which point I load up and stock the freezer. Last week
I saw Country Morning had introduced a one kilo sized package of
thick cut bacon; it looked a lot like Mitchell's and I thought
perhaps it was, as store brands are often identical to brand names
except for the packaging. I grabbed 4 kilos at $6 each. Sadly, this
was not one of those times... it is saltier, pumped up with liquid
and has less smoke, less spicing. In an effort to improve on the
spicing I have been sprinkling it as it fries with crushed pepper,
coriander seed and celery seed. This morning I had an inspiration.
The last time I was in Edmonton I had visited an Indian store and
picked up a pound each of black onion and brown mustard seed. So I
threw a pinch of each into the mortar along with the pepper,
coriander and celery seed. Crushed onion seed sure does perk up lame
bacon!

MMMMM-----Meal-Master - formatted by MMCONV  2.10

     Title: Moms Peas With Sauerkraut (Groch Z Kapusta)
categories: Polish, bacon, vegetables
  servings: 4

      1    bag sauerkraut (rinsed and
           drained)
    1/3 lb bacon (diced)
      2 cn green peas
      2 lg onions diced
      2    cloves garlic (minced)
      1 tb brown sugar
           butter or margarine (optional
      1 cn sliced mushrooms (optional)
           salt and pepper to taste

Saute bacon for a few minutes to release fat. Add onion and saute on
medium heat until onions are caramelized. You may add butter or
margarine if you need more oil. Add minced garlic, cook until
tender. Add liquid from peas to deglaze pan. Add peas and lightly
mash half of them to act as a thickening for the mixture. Add
mushrooms (optional); add sauerkraut and brown sugar. Salt and pepper
to taste. Cover and simmer on low to heat thru, stirring
occasionally to prevent sticking/burning.

This recipe was passed down 3 generations. My great grandparents
came from Poland. My Polish grandmother made it and now my mom and
me.
