The problem with the lab's location is that
there are very few other options, you either
learn to prepare your own food (or eat on the
meal plan that's available) or you go the TV
dinner route. The nearest real grocery store is
in Sebastopol which is about a good 30-45 minute 
drive. Most of the "kids" go with easy food,
chips, breads and heat and serve sort of
dishes.

Well, I'm older than you, but I'm not
Italian (grin)...I've never had any 
complaints about my sauce.
