JWh> 4-8" on the ground here as I type this.  Just had to clear the

We ended up with nine inches from Friday's storm.  Yesterday it 
snowed lightly, but all day, so we added another two inches.  
Today another storm is moving in with 6 inches or so; I guess our
white Christmas is guaranteed even if we get some rain on 
Wednesday.

Do your dogs like the snow?  When I was a kid, I had a lab/pit
mix who loved it - as soon as the weather got cold, he was like
a puppy, and when there was snow on the ground he was all over
it.

Then, I had another pit, but this one was a husky cross.  He
had the tightly curled tail and undercoat of a husky with the
body and shape of a pit bull - and eyes so light blue they
looked white.  He was such a snowdog that I had a harness for
him.  When my daughter was little, we would go sledding.  The
dog would chase her sled down the hill. At the bottom, I'd 
hook the harness up to him, and he would pull her up to the
top again and sit down, waiting to be unhooked for the next
ride.

My current dog, Zim, another pit, has a thin topcoat but
no undercoat at all - much more typical of pit bulls - and
hates any kind of precipitation!  When it's snowy like this,
he goes out just long enough to crap or pee, and that's 
enough for him, he's back inside laying in front of the
fire again. [g]

JWh> Me too!!  It's better now that I'm retired and don't HAVE 
JWh> to go out in it.  

Hahahaha, yeah, I understand.  I keep the hubs locked on my
little truck whenever there's snow on the roads so I can
drop it into 4x4 when I need to, but I don't mind the snow a
bit, even though it means a little extra work.

I used to own an old four-family house, and back then I 
dreaded the winter.  Thanks to stupid and/or malicious
tenants, I had pipes freeze twice and one fairly new boiler
get destroyed (all in the middle of January, in sub-zero
weather.)  I hated the snow because I had to keep it 
perfectly clear from the walks and steps etc. so none of
those assholes would have an excuse to slip and sue me,
and after two or three storms I'd run out of places to put
the snow because the houses were so close together.

Now I live in a little single-family place with no sidewalks
to shovel, a big wide lot with plenty of room for snowbanks,
and best of all, no tenants.  And I'm perfectly content to
have a nor'easter blow through the region again because I
can enjoy the snow without any stress.  =)
